receiver has only one optical input need 2

    my yamaha a/v receiver has only one digital optical input which is used by the dvd player. the cable company is broadcasting hdtv hbo stuff in 5.1...how can in incorporate this?...is there a way to branch off 2 optical inputs...the cable box has an optical output..but only one on the a/v

    You would need a switch!
    Any switch would work as long as it was break-before-make type.
    A splitter would be inappropriate.
    I would consider giving the SPDIF over to the cable, if it can be proven to work, and hooking the DVD up the old fashioned way, but try the switch first :)
    Sounds like a job for Radio Shack...

    Try www.audioauthority.com or www.copperbox.com or smarthome.com They will have your splitter. My Bose had the same problem...
