I would like to capture digital video/audio from my digital cable box. Much of the audio is broadcasted in 5.1 and I would like to be able to capture this audio bit stream. I haven't seen any video captures card that have digital audio inputs. Does anyone know what PC hardware (brand/ model #) that I can use to capture digital video as well as the digital audio? Thanks for any help.
I guess you want to record the AC3 sound directly, you will get sync issues this way, which is hard to compensate, due to, that you're captureing the video, which has a delay. Best is to find a sat-box that has a usb connection, and comes with software for this, video and audio comes as one stream this way, and stores as a file on your pc hd. i know of the new Topfield that you can make an copy of an encrypted recording, which then has the encryption removed that way, and you can process this file further. FTA recordings are no problem. The files stored on a sat-box are not pc standard, you need always to have extra pc installed software, to get the recordings. I guess the "Dreambox" is a ideal satellite PVR for you, checkout their forums, i don't have a Dreambox (Linux)....yet...
