I don't beleive the error is in the burning process... I am more and more beleiving it is a glitch/error with the DvDShrink. Either during indexing...or when it encodes. It is as if it is not putting the files back in their correct order so when it burns it is just a hodge podge of crap. I don't have enough space in my internal.... or last time I tried I did not.. I might now with all the other programs being gone that I had before. I am beginning to beleive more and more that I should just reformat and try all over again. When I went to encode my first movie after reformat there was a pop up that came with an error but it was deleted before being read which is now why I am thinking...there is something missing..and no matter what I do right now...the efforts will be useless. I think my reformat and the Shrink program are not "meshing" well together. Or something is missing...... something that was working in the background before..that is not there now. I have tried just about every suggestion I have been given. Even restored my computer back to day 2 (day 1 was reformat day and mother board driver day.....day 2 was when I began adding programs before attempting downloads from the internet.)but when I go into program files, there are programs that technically should not be there yet. Restore my ass...... so if there is an error.... I don't think I am going to be able to dig it out unless I start all over from scratch.
when I was encoding...I was watching the process..the movie ran fine... but on the disk..it is more of a jumbled up mess. This time I took the movie and watched it without trying to go to root menu... it jumps..skips... it was just a mess.
System Restore can really screw with your head, it will try and save your files but delete the programs that created those files, leaving a mess and a lot of head scratching. I scanned back through the posts and don't think I ever seen what media you were using. As 7thsinger said quality media is one of if not the most important component to high quality backups. Also, before you give up the ship and reformat, did you try getting a clean slate to start with by using a program such as ccleaner as, rtm27 suggested, to uninstall your programs. There are a lot of variables to deal with, so give the members here a chance to help you before you try the dreaded reformat again. They have helped me through a lot of problems and I have confidence they will get you through it. Just try and keep us updated as to the specifics of your problem.
Update: I reformatted the computer. Installed all updates before I tried burning anything. Reloaded DVDFab 5, DVDShrink, ImgBurn and Nero. Since I reformatted the DVDFab program did not recognize I had all ready used my trial period, so I had a new month and thought I would give it a shot. I had three successful burns with the DVDFab5 Platinum program. But I have also learned that since no Shrinking occurred, some movies need a DVD9 instead of a DVD5. LOL No biggee.. I can handle that. After three successful burns that play in ALL my players and without glitches, I decided to try my old way again. DVDFab Decrypt, DVDShrink and burn. That was completely unseuccessful which leads me to beleive the DVDShrink program is missing something and it is not enocding the movie correctly. It doesn't play right, it is not even in the correct sequemce. The Root Menu is a mess and if you do try to go through the Root Menu it begins the "loop". So...I again tried to burn DVDFab Platinum..with another success. It's not the movie...it is not the decrypter...to me it seems like Shrink is being faulty. My stepdaughter is having the same problem with Shrink as well. The media I have used this entire time..with both successful and unsuccessful burns is Maxell DVD-R 4.7 GB disks. Which have worked fine for me, except there are a few movies with DVDFab Platinum I need to either get DVD9's or double layer media. Trying to put a movie like The Departed or 300 on a DVD5 gets you crappy quality. I have currently decided to ignore the DVDShrink program..it is not working and this other way is. Just in about 25 days I will need to purchased the Platinum program if I wish to continue backing up my disks. I have no idea why Shrink worked before..and now it seems to be messing up the movie. I will in a while try again to mess with it..maybe I am choosing the worng formats or something.. I don't know.. but for now the Platinum program is working with ease and it is so much faster that decrypt/shrink/burn. It used to take me anywhere from 8- 12 hours to go through all three. Now I can get a movie backed up in 4-6 hours. Sad thing is it is no longer saving to my drive....it will save to a temp file and then I throw in my media and it burns it. I only have one drive for this... Had I realized before that Platinum was so easy to use and burn, I probably would not have purchased the Nero program. But then on the other hnad..I still need a program to back my CD's up with...so Nero is not a complete waste of money. I have 25 days left of my trial period. I think after the 25 days is up...I will purchase the Platinum program. For now I am dissappointed my old way no longer works. But since there is another route that has been successful.. I am satisfied Now to get DVD9's After downloading Nero I did get an NMIndexstore error thingy...but I googled that and it gave me another AfterDawn thread and I fixed that too. AfterDawn Forum boards are awesome. It has helped in more ways than one..and my freind Alayna aka Chowder from another site. She was the one that encouraged me to try the Platinum program.
Oh...and I have not used the CCleaner for my computer. I use IOBit.com...Windows Advance care... which the first time I used it..it found thousands of errors....fixed them and the Shrink program still does not work as I wish it would.
two things 1. you can burn audio CDs with imgburn 2. on the movies that are higher compressed you have a couple options, you can just do the movie only to save space and or use DVD Rebuilder to encode which will give you perfect quality with a dvd-5 SL blank DVD. saves you from buying expensive DVD+R DL media
Shhhh.. don't tell me that.. I'm trying to make myself feel better about buying Nero when I didn't need it. Shhhh now...... Shhhhh... LOL I will not remove the programs.. but what I am going to do is give it a rest until I can regroup my bearings and try again without being too frustrated. If you know what I mean. Sometimes you just have to walk away and try again with a fresh outlook. Come back later with... "Ok..now where did I go wrong".. and try again without getting irritated. Personally I am slightly repelled by my computer at the moment. Where I would usually spend hours on it... I get on for about half an hour and get off and that is it for the day. Completely different to my normal routine. I just don't want to deal with it right now. I'm not giving it persay... not throwing in the ship just yet. But I think someone else needs to Captain for a while. I've just got too much going on to dedicate myself to figuring out why it is not working. I got it to work before..but for some reason it is not working now.
