This happened here (Galway Ireland) today too & it took the box about 20 Mins to recode. It sorted itself eventually though, all is well again.

Hi, anyone read in this mornings paper about €70,000 of illegal tv unscrambling equipment being recovered in a serious of raids in Finglas? Just wondering if this is anything to do with the boxes?

This was a guy that was selling the boxes out of a shop and was advertising them as you can get all the channels what does he think is going to happen once the EMU is switched off they can do nothing as they are sold free to air just like the ones in aldi or lidl but he had everything set up on them so they are illegal then you must sell the boxes as free to air only

hmmm I love a good loophole.

Is it illegal to sell one that has the software on it but it isn't activated?? (by entering 7777 in parental lock)...what if there were instructions with it on how to activate it, would that be illegal then?...just to er... be sure.. for no reason other than general interest... erm.. yes.. interest...

There are more loop holes in it than we think there is always a way around things we just need to find them

Next year what are they going to do as the freeview come on air and it will defo not be illegal to own them then or use them as long as you are not viewing subscription channels :)

    Hi Fergs,

Those boxes that were taken by the police have at this stage locked themselves as they were probably powered off.

Some of the boxes do this, therefore if they are brought up as evidence they won't work rendering their case null.

Only way to unlock them is if the police put the unlock code in and then they are breaking their own laws.

So they will have to arrest themselves.

    Hi Brian

Yes you are quite correct if they are left for long periods they do tend to revert back to default once they have been switched back on agian hopefully in this case

It scans the frequencies one by one, I have watched it a few times doing a scan in Dublin 200-402.

    It doesn't miss a frequency.
