Our discussion forums have grown 100% over the last three weeks and account now around 1.5 million page impressions a month and it seems that during the peak times, our current forum database can't keep it up.

I'm currently working on this issue, but it requires major rewrite to forums and to our site in order to convert our user database and forums to use the new db engine. I hope to launch the modified version live within next 5 days or so, maybe sooner. Once this is done, it MAY cause problems that will be taken care of once we find them out.

Thanks for the warning. It must be nice to know that afterdawn is becoming so popular. Any particular reason do you think ?

With forums, there's always the "snowball effect" -- more posts you have, the more pages you have and therefor google gets more stuff into index, sends more people into forums, who then again post more questions, which produces more pages, etc... This works until your specific "genre" is saturated -- meaning that virtually all who are interested of the "genre", have visited your forums.

    Hmmmmm.....

Would you call that an 'explosion', or an 'implosion'? :)

    Please forgive the triple-whammy.

I got a very interesting screen when I clicked on the 'submit button' with this one. There was no indication that my (silly) post went through, but I'll send a screenshot of what I *did* get to the webadmins.

    Test reply.

    Klingon:
You probably mean the debug information printed by the server?

    Queries

    checkdb (Records=1, Time=187ms)
    SQL =
    select id, user_level from users

    etc.?

That's just due to the fact that dRD switched the forums to another server last night and the debugging is still enabled on that one. Nothing to worry about. =)

Still, thanks alot for reporting it!

Yes, that was it, Jari. (A debug screen.) It doesn't appear now.

But neither did an email notice appear in my <regular> inbox indicating you had replied here! (grrrrr.....) I had to visit here just by random selection to see that you had replied.

I'll delete the screenshot since you know about it and I don't have either your or Petteri's email address anyway.

I hope your (recent) "fatal" computer failure wasn't *too* fatal. They tell me computers are like cats -- they have nine lives. (My own machine is working on life #7). :)

Hi Mike, thanks for telling us about the debug issue, it's been turned off now.

And the reminders aren't sent out because this new box is not listed in our mail server's "approved IPs where mail can be sent from" list. Will be fixed shortly as well.
