I bought a new batch of Ritek R04 16X DVD+R and they report in both Nero and DVD decrypter as 8X max. The drive is a Memorex dual-layer external. When you manually set DVD decrypter to burn at 16X it still burns the disc at 8X

Is your memorex burner capable of burning at 16x?

    Do you have usb 2.0?

If it specifies 16x speed, you'll probably have to update to the latest firmware at memorex's web site.

Well, yes it is over USB 2.0 and it is capable of 16x and it does have the latest firmware rev. BWSE.

The thing is that I think the Ridata R04 is actually labeled as 8X (on the disc itself) but since the dye layer was capable of 16X they just rebranded. I get that vibe through some of their marketing and descripitons.

Is there a way to manually control it to burn the data at 16X? Just specifying the speed as 16X in Decrypter doesn't seem to do it and Nero doesn't even report it as a possibility.
