Hi everyone just recently I have noticed that I cannot right click my mouse button on the desktop screen, once I noticed this I tried various other time with different programs. I thought I had a virus even though I have avast constantly running. I did a free pc scan from the microsoft site, but it returned saying my pc was clean. I don't know if this is just some sort of setting that I may have accidently turned off - that said can anyone help me put it right.
    thank you's

This may be due to a driver fault. Try this first, right click on the "my computer" icon, select Properties, select Hardware, select Device manager, double click on Mice and other pointing devices, select Resources and see if ther are No conflicts. If No conflicts appears, then select Driver, then select Roll back driver. You will have to do a restart for these changes to take effect. Once restarted, check the operation of the mouse. Don't forget to check the button assignments are to your specs. All should be well.
Let us know how you go.

    Cheers.

The fact that you can right click on some files makes me think the mouse is going bad or you have a virus. MS antivirus is not that good. You need to do scans with other anti programs. If you can right click on anything tells me the basic drivers for the mouse are there and working But check device manager anyway.

Thanks for your advice onya but unfortuately when I right click on My Computer and select properties nothing else happens. I ran Trend micro free online scan and it reported Adware.TrustinPopups but it did not delete this file. I have running Avast pro constantly and this after doing a scan of my computer reports nothing. Also I have ran spybot & spyware blaster and these too report nothing. I do still feel I have a virus of some sort but as yet can't get any program to find one - can you suggest another program that may give my computer a better scan.

also I meant to say that when I goto start/run then type msconfig it gives me a message saying windows can't find msconfig. I tried some advice from another site which said type in sfc/scannow and put my original windows cd in which I did but this did not resolve my problem.

I was under the impression that you could right click on some things, sorry about that. To get to device manager, Start, left click My computer, then select View system information from the system task pane, and go to Hardware etc etc...

Just read your latest post.....mmmmm, sounds like something weird is going on. Did you get your msconfig back?

Try the driver advice, and see how we get on from there. The only other step I would take if the mouse still won't work correctly, is to delete the driver completely, make a restart, and windows will install it's own...then go from there.

    Cheers

Thats good advice Onya! But it sure sounds like a bug also.

@bkf, Thanks, and yep, it sure does. Where do you start with a rig you know nothing about? My way of dealing with it is start with the easy stuff, then jump in. After implementing the advice that he (bobwheel2) gets, and he still has no resolution, then it's beg, borrow or buy a replacement. Then onto net nasty removals, but just like the mouse, it appears clean. Don't you just love computers?(sigh)...

    Cheers.

LoL Onya: yes computers can be fun but it gives us something to do. I could fix most of these peoples problems in 5 minutes tops if I had the system in front of me. Doing it over the phone is a little harder!
Have a good day sir. Bk

hi onya maybe I didn't explain correctly in my last reply - I can right click on some programs and when I followed your advice on right clicking on My computer this indeed worked but when I selected properties as you suggested nothing happened - no other window - nothing. I'm 100% sure that I do indeed have some kind of virus but the thing is none of the free online scans are detecting anything - I also meant to say that I have norton antivirus 2006 with full updates and this has not detected anything wrong either. I know the bottom line is to re-format my hard-drive and install windows again but I'm trying to avoid this as I have lots of files on my 160 gb hard-drive

Correct, this is a last resort.
I wish I could read the Hijack log, but unless it's very obvious, I don't stand a chance. So..sit tight, others will post on it for sure.

Just to confirm, have you applied all the actions suggested? This is not to say DO IT! but confirmation of any actions taken, helps others with further analysis. :)

As far as Norton is concerned, I also have it. Oh dear. I can hear one particular member saying "Told you so".

    Cheers.

yes I have tried everything up till now that has been suggested to me but alas pc still not running correctly. I have just noticed that I can't even right click on my local settings folder in order to view it's contents - also normally you can right click anywhere on the desktop and a menu comes up but not anymore.

I found out that my internet provider gives a free program to it's subscribers which is Netguard. I installed this program and ran a scan of my pc which it found & deleted the files below. My pc has still got the original problems but at least I now have managed to get rid of some viruses that I did not know I had & also no other virus scanners found. As I say I have closed down my pc - booted up again but my original problem is still there.
