yh i see it all the time and its just gay and pathetic getting someone else to do every last thing for you if u dont put effort in yourself then your not gonna learn anything from it thats how i see it anyway
I didn't read anywhere, where someone told him to get a program and scan for spyware or things like that. Thats one of the first things I would try.
yep i was thinkin that myself im gonna slowly get started and build a list of what programs ill need to reinstall and then do a lil more research on it jus so i know EXACTLY what im doin so i dont mess it up could take a few days
Thanks for all the help my moms just said that she saw a TV program earlier in the year when vista came out about computers and it apparently said re installing stuff like that can wreck the computer is it likley to happen or very unlikley or what?? thanks again
ok thanks.... so 1 last time ill need to: 1. back up everything important (already done =D) 1. get a copy of windows 98 and install it 2. install windows XP again after..... is that correct or are there any other important steps to take? and i am doing the low level format not full right?
you don't need to install windows 98 if your copy of windows home is the full version. if it says "upgrade", then you'll need windows 98. and windows 98 is just an easy way to format. there are fdisk apps out there, you just have to look a bit.
you just need a win98 or winme boot disk if pc has a floppy drive. if not have a floppy drive then need a bootable cd of win98 or winme but don't install that version of windows onto your pc unless have upgrade version of xp on a cd.
oh so i find my windows XP CD (if i have one ive never seen it as XP was on the PC already) if not ill download one then insert it and see if it says upgrade if not then i google for a fdisk program if so i do it the windows 98 way?
I guess that you already discovered that your post has absolutely nothing in common with what is going on in this thread. Post in the correct forum.
pretty much. find your current windows key and use it with the appropriate version of windows, i.e. if your computer originally came with XP Home SP2, use a disc with that. *edit* hi, bruce!
go to your start menu, right click My Computer, go to properties. your version will be listed under the General tab.
"Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 service Pack 2" so if i dont have the installation CD thats what ill be looking to download?
ok thanks for all the help when i end up doing it all ill let you know. thanks again really appreciate it
What's this been, an instant message chat? After reading through that lot, I agree that reformatting and reinstalling windows is the best thing you could do, but I also support getting 2GB of RAM, 512MB just doesn't cut it any more these days. I wouldn't recommend overclocking unless you know what your'e doing, and since you've got a Dell, I dout you'll be able to do it anyway. Thing is, given the performance increase you'll see from upping the ram and reformatting, it probably won't be necessary.
