True, that has a big impact often, but the bit about the RAM still applies.

Debatable, I think 512MB is a "get by with", the average user can easily exceed 500MB RAM usage just by browsing the internet, especially if they use firefox.

it depends on the system & windows version as to how much ram you need. i'm running win98se on a 2.53ghz celeron with 512meg of ram with 4 ie windows open not including outlook express & i've have had upto 8 ie windows open at once.

That's true, I was speaking from a Windows XP standpoint. 512MB will probably be enough for 98SE, if you can stand the crashes lol.

Fair enough. I wasn't necessarily referring to frequency of crashes though, I was referring to the implications if one happened, in XP you have to close the program, in 98 you lost your work and had to reboot.

My secret for reformatting, I have a 40 Gig hard drive seperate from my system, it has all of the original software installed on it. When I want to reformat the current hard drive I first install the 40 archive drive as a single drive, perform the updates, then wipe clean the "master" 200 Gig hard drive, and then copy the entire hard drive onto the 200 using max blast disk copy software. Next, return the two hard drives to their original configuration and return the archival hard drive to its safe storage space. Works great and doesn't take that long to accomplish. I keep all my pics and my music on the second hard drive as well as the programs and games I don't use that frequently. Seems to work.

They might be small and running at high RPMs. Those kinda fans get really annoying. Also it depends on how the fans are made and if the have ball bearing etc...

well they used to be quiet when i 1st had this pc (last september) but they just got louder n louder as time weny on....ive been searching about it and so far it looks like i should clean the fans out properly ill try that but i dont see how a bit of dust can cause as much noise as it does i mean my PC is downstairs and sometimes i can hear it from upstairs.
