just use the game backup feature from the unleashx dash, its much easier and straightens out the problems of where the apps n stuff go.
ok thanx guys (I was hoping not to have to burn it, just ftp it straight) but as long as it works that'll be cool. Thanx again for all the help
Hello to all as I am a newbie to Xbox modding, but not a newb in general as I have been a PC junkie for the past 10 years or more and am quite skilled overall. I'm picking up this whole Xbox modding stuff fairly quickly now that a friend pointed it all out. My Xbox had been collecting dust since I purchaed it many years ago but now it sits center stage as my awesome Media Center system connected to a 65" HDTV. It can be a bit frustrating tracking down all the best info needed to get the most out of your Xbox so I will share what I have found so far and hopefully it will make it easier for others. I'll end this long terse here and start another one now to list my tips.
TIPS TIPS TIPS You should be able to see the Avalaunch dashboard in the Applications section of any other currently running dashboard (UnleashX and XBMC are what I use with the former being the default startup created with the SoftMod 3.1 toolkit) by renaming the avalaunche.xbe to default.xbe (found in the Avalaunch folder). Avalaunch has been useful for two things: the speedboost when FTP'ing games to/from the Xbox using the awesome Qwix application running on my PC, and for automatically "fixing" games that would only boot to black screens after launching. Yeah, I had 2 or 3 games so far that would copy OK but just went black when you tried playing them. Avalaunch had no problem making the games work and from then on, they worked from within ANY dashboard! Simply awesome. For general FTP tasks I like the free FileZilla, but for transferring game ISOs from the PC the the Xbox, nothing beats Qwix. There's even a batch mode so that you can simply queue up a dozen or two games and let 'er rip. It also creates ISOs on your PC from any game already installed on the Xbox like a breeze! Best of all... it's so darn easy to use. I've used both a 120GB and now a 200GB hardrive in my Xbox - helps to check out drive compatibility first at http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=statistics . I too was having some trouble getting the extra space and the G drive to show up, but I finally got the setting right on the UnleashX dash configuration to enable (and rememberd to SAVE the option) it. Best to reboot your Xbox after transferring files or making setting changes in the dashboards to guarantee you see the new stuff, games, option changes, etc.. I'll post more tips as I find the useful ones or if I can help answer some other questions with them.
I wondered if any knowledgeable modder can help me understand the whole partition(s) and .xbe useage of the Xbox. I used the Softmod 3.1 method and chose UnleashX as my bootup dashboard. It's ok and all (nice and easy game copy feature: hidden in the Misc section - and a quick way to get the FTP server up and running). I've thought about putting XBMC as my default dash (I currently just run it as an app from the E partition) but am worried I'll trash the proper booting ability (did it once already and just restored my drive with the slick backup ISO I made with xboxhdm_v1.9, but still a time wasting hassle). Is there a safe way to switch booting dashboards with a softmod in place? Which files are actually the softmod doing their thing at boot? Also, the XBMC has the nifty Quicktime movie script to peruse the web and watch trailers, but even after trying the latest version I still cannot get it to play any trailers. I get to the updating portion Ok and see all the movie titles and descriptions, just can't actually get the trailers to play. I can see a quick message on screen referring to some Q: partition cache and then nothing happens. I do not see a Q: partition on my Xbox (but I think it's a hidden cache thing) and wondered if I have to launch XBMC from a particular partition in the first place for the script to work right. Again, my XBMC is launched as an app from E: Thanks.
Yurika thank you! I only found this post the other day(so sorry for the late thank you) This was the problem! Now my avalaunch dash appears in the apps menu in EvoX. Needless to say I am assuming that this will also fix other apps which have the same problem like XB music mixer. thnx again
