    Hi all,

Just wondering is it possible to set up a dreambox 500c to receive the free view channels in ireland since the saorview is coming in next month.

the dm500 came in three flavours, dvb/s for satellite, dvb/c for cable and legacy chorus systems and dvb/t for ntl cable systems. As all know the latest nagra system has knocked many of these systems out. the only one that can be used as a saorview receiver is the dvb/t system (and that is without rte2hd as no dm500 is capable of hd transmission). so to answer your question the dm500c or dvb/c system is not capable of saorview reception

thought the T variant tuners were for MMDS,, the C tuners were for true cable such a NTL/UPC and VM, Kryptview at one stage had boxs for MMDS with the T variant tuner, but didnt last long,

mickah, you may have solved a puzzle for me. this thread kinda made me think that the dvb-t tuner would work on saorview but have identified that it don't. feic, feic and triple feic

Not sure, but as far as I know the T tuner in the Dreamboxs, the Digivox and the Kryptview for MMDS were for mgeg 2, not mpeg 4, the C were for true cable so to speak and S are for Sat, I can stand corrected on that if I am wrong

the only boxs out there now are the combi's, approved and non approved set tops boxs and what kid posted above, which for that price I would get a set top box or a combi if I had a dish

in the process to run coaxial cable to rooms with tvs to use with the indoor attic aerial for the saorview service and a sat cable for the freesat on the triax hd combi tsc114 as it frees up the tuners on the vu boxes lol.

remember saorview receiver are the irish channels only,no itv or bbc as many people think they are included,if you want them included you need a combi and sat dish.
