    Hello!

I just got a 500gb Maxtor drive for use as an external drive. I hadn't heard of SATA until I tried to hook it up to a external casing and noticed that the connectors were incompatible. So, I now realize that I need a compatible external enclosure.

My question is this: do I need to have a SATA card or something in my computer in order to use this drive in an external enclosure? Or will the SATA enclosure allow me to use it with my regular USB cables?

    Thanks!

just search any computer store and you should find external enclosures for SATA drives. If you want it internal, which is what i would do if you have space and do not need to take it places, then an SATA card to fit in an open PCI slot is the way to go.

I just did a simple search for "SATA external enclosure" in a search angine and came up with pages of them.
