you still need the null modem cable to put on the laptop first then the max 232 goes on to the end of the cable and the end of the max goes on to the board of the box the max you have does look like the wrong one you have

this is what you need below to get the box back working

My first post on this very thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/753769#4565870 although its hard to read back that far :( However I do not remember giving you the wrong info.

The modem one will work if you change the pin out config in the molex plug. Easily done with a paper clip and the correct pin out info. The pin out info I have posted before so its about somewhere just takes a bit of reading ;)

hi guys, ive the same problem, 8882 and blue screen, i think the box is genuine, just bought it from sat and cable, i put starview4usb_beta software on it, is this the problem? or is it a dodgy box?

when you say you havent been hearing good things do you mean customer service wise or clone box wise? where is the best place to buy from, i tried wizard but something put me off, this is the first ive used sat and cable. i saw that link for the max 232 yesterday and ordered one, if the box is a clone is it still fixable?

A bit of both regards the supplier. If its a clone send it back to them and ask for a replacement. There is no clonesafe firmware for the SV4 clones. 1.10 and the later Beta will brick a clone.

Wizard are OK at least you will get a genuine box.

Yes look down through the grills on the top of the box and if you see a square silver heatsink on the CPU its a clone.

Although some earlier genuine models are also been bricked :(

i dont know if they'll take it back because i cut the european plug off it and put a standard one on, i think its genuine, i'm not sure what the heatsink is but there are 3 black chips on the board, i think the heatsink is the largest one, if it isn't a clone, why would it have bricked? would it be the beta software?

The CPU is the big black chip in the middle of the motherboard. If it doesnt have a square metallic plate on it, then it doesnt have a heatsink.

8882 is usually caused by a bad flash or badly formatted HDD or mem stick. The Max232 will sort that. If you see a message come up saying this is an invalid box then the box is about to kill the bootloader.

Luckily this is not the case with your box ;)

so is it only the clone boxes that havethe heatsink, or is mine missing one? i'm thinking of trying to fix it myself instead of sending it back, if it works i'll flash it with different software, i used a brand new usb stick the last time with the beta file on it, so i think the file must be corrupt, i set one up last week using 1.10 with no problems.

Yes its the clones that have the heatsink as the processor is inferior on them and needs it to dissipate the heat.

If you are in Ireland you need to use the latest Beta firmware as 1.10 was not opening all the channels. If you are in the UK stick with 1.07.

im in northern ireland, the software i put on my other sv4 seems to be working ok, must've been 1.07, however my svpvr is missing a lot of channels, eurosport, fiveUS e4 among others, and some channels like mutv are under names like tv7702, software on them are cr4p, i'm sorry i didn't go for a sv4 originally, thanx for your help, your not bad for a scouser.

    hey Scouser,

    I have 2 sv4's.

One yesterday started saying invalid box. Then died. Nothing on the front leds. Power going into the back with the red light on in the back of it.

    Any ideas?
