if your pc is windows vista and your trying to flash a box, then your chances are slim and none(with seriel usb)they are not compatable in most cases,i went and got an old(very old)pc desktop with windows xp and it has a seriel connection(newer pc dont)so all i need is a null modem in my old pc via seriel port, and in to the box?(what ever box, excluding boxes that are usb,as they will work as normal)then flash with your loader.hey presto, its cheaper and less hassle than trying leads and cables that wont work, trust me i know.good luck mate.

i know it can be done, but in many cases it cant(or people go off spending good money on all kinds of leads, spend hours online trying to find a driver that will work)sometimes the best option for some people is what i advised above as its a simple sollution and fairly cost effective,i had these troubles my self and this was my sollution.if you know of a good usb seriel driver that will work on vista then it would help lots of people to mention the name on this thread,as i have seen many people who have the same problem.hope you post the driver name here fuerte(be a big help)thanks mate.

Not too fond of advertising sites but bought the lead from a crowd in the UK and driver came with it all £17 sterling(€20).
I admit the xp way is easier but some folks just aint interested in doing any research whatsoever and just want quick answers, so by not naming the site might encourage people to 'work' a little !!!!

I have flashed boxes with vista and windows 7, even in the 64bit versions.

the trick is that the official drivers dont work, but there is a gps receiver with signed vista drivers for the usb2serial :)

It works with the prolific pl-2303 which is sold in maplins.
The links where i got it is dead, but i could reupload somewhere if anyone wants it.

i have flashed kryptview and starview with windows 7 with it.
