its most likely that a share(on a paysite) will have only the uk channels and not rte/tv3,if you found a share with someone from ireland you then would have rte/tv3. all the pay servers will have sports and movies(but no box office). i dont think the dreambox 800 can read a sly card from the cardslot(you would need something like smargo)just make sure that any image you use is safe(or clone safe)nabilosat darkstar 11 is clone safe and a good image(you can get cccam easy from it,via the yellow button) the safe thing to do is read all the posts you can on your box and get all the info you need before setting up,better safe than sorry.

well best thing with these boxes is you can change an image for an another quite easy if you dont like the one you have. mikeyred try a reboot to restart cccam, check to see is the router showing a light(indicating an ethernet cable is connected)it should be lighting up. if your using cccam press yellow, and go to cccam info,go down to servers and press ok on the remote, check to see if server who gave you the cline is online. if you did all of the above and cccam was restarted and you have a light indicating an ethernet cable is connected and your server is still offline, you will need to contact your server to check his end or to give you another cline.

Thanks very much for your reply piopat, when it comes to sat boxes i havent a clue as im only good with cable boxes. The guy i got the box from is sound but he is away since today and unreachable, i dont want to mess about with settings till i hear from him but i was just wondering is it something simple from my end like enable emu or something like that.

as i said above check the router has a light on to show an ethernet connection, it should have a light on and your box will have a light also around the area where the ethernet cable connects to it,if you are missing either of these lights then try unplugging the router for a second and then plug it back in. reboot the box(thats simply turning it off and back on again)on my box its menu, then choose option 5 which is shutdown, reboot is highlighted in red, and then press ok, this restarts the cam(dont worry it wont change any settings) and checking cccam info is just to show you on screen that the person who is sharing with you is online or offline, all being well its online. if it says online it would seem the problem is with you, if i get this problem i check the above and it usually cures it. that said if you do all the above and its still offline its most likely your server thats at fault, and as you say the guy is away.

So you need an external reader for the DM800?? What about the clones? and the DM500 clone from dealextreme? http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29102

i have 2 dm500s and the card is ok in both ,its no warmer than in the original sly box. that said its up to the individual what they want to use.i got 2 from dvb monkey(they came within 3 days, and they flash them for you if you want, with a choice of images)of course its up to the person them selves to decide which company, but there can ba a risk.

DM800 internal reader does read sly card. Smargo is used by those who are concerned about internal heat of DM800 melting the card. If you do not use internal hard disk within DM800 there should be no reason why you cannot use the internal reader to read card.

ECM response times for both internal reader and external Smargo seem to be similar so the benefit of using the Smargo is open to debate

Also be aware that DM800 kernel systems built on levels before boot loader 72 do not support the externally connected Smargo card reader

Thanks lads, was just wondering as I ordered 4 more from deal extreme. Have to get a decent 800 now to replace the sky plus box in the living room.

No. However if you want something a bit more interesting I would suggest Nabilo Blackhole 0.12. This will work on bootloaders greater than 72. Be aware of a few things with the DM800

    - if you want to flash an image using the serial port you need to remove the DVI connection to your TV as there is not enough space to have both connections side by side
    - if you want to use a Smargo then be aware that its really difficult to insert it if you have an ethernet connection as there is nearly enough space side by side to insert both
    - if you want to connect two usb devices then make sure they are not bulky as the USB ports are so on top of each other its nearly impossible to use both of them
    - if you want to use an internal hard disk then make sure to buy a fire extinguisher as well and think of a good excuse why your sky card has turned into plastic pulp
    - you only get one tuner so unless you are recording programs on the same transponder as the program you wish to watch, you can only record and cannot watch another channel at the same time

Whoever designed the IO ports and internals of the box should be applauded for some very weird decisions. However if you can get over these drawbacks, the box is just the best fun to play with.

In comparision you have the DM8000 currently retailing at Sterling 900. Now what do you get for that. Answer is not much. No internal hard disk, no DVD drive and no fire extinguisher if you decide to insert all the parts that are potentially possible within the unit.

Dream Multimedia build great boxes but their insistence on a compact solution without internal fan (which you can put in yourself) means that these boxes overheat easily. So while many things may be possible you need to be sensible on how you integrate different parts into the unit.

As said before I use an external hard disk and I have also removed the back plate to allow for better ventilation. Its a costly purchase, its loads of fun, but you need to take care of it.

It may have its negatives as listed above but in truth its a great box. If you are into playing with a box then the DM800 is the best. I advise buying the real thing and not a clone.

    hey all,

so i've got my network set-up.
dm500sv8 server, mythbuntu htpc with sasc-ng, and another dm500s.

the only problem i have is freezing.

average ping to server is 70ms spiking to 200ms sometimes.

is there anyone else having freezing problems.

anyone any pointer on fixing freezing,

Sounds complex. Is this an internal house multisharing network. If so can I ask why you just simply don't use CCCAM to network between the two boxes. One is server, one is client. Is there a reason for using Ubuntu in your current config. Please clarify
