im using the card reader and glad to say all is well and my setup is glitch free (touch wood )have noticed the problem with some dreambox remotes (havent tried the 800) but the dm500 is poor enough ,have to say the dm7020 remote is excellent . my box is about 12 feet away and my remote has no trouble reaching it.

if you are asking if the dreambox will open up premium channels from your basic card then the answer is no. however if you have multiple tvs in the house then you can share all the channels you are subscribed to between all the different rooms.

you will need a dreambox for each room in your home and each box connected to your broadband router/hub ,how do you gain from this you dont is the answer . you can share with your family or friends in their homes and so you could charge them say a percentage of what you pay sly to reduce your costs,or share/swap with someone that you know . example ,you have basic channels plus movies (but no sports ) and you want sports and your mate has basic channels and sport but no movies and he wants movis (its mutual interest ) you each share but it only works if people can/want to share. its not free thats why its called sharing and it takes time to learn and so it involves reading many posts and threads .as fintan says read through this thread and the newbie thread and then we will be glad to help you mate .

guys, i have ran a cat5 cable from my router to my dreambox, i decided rather than have 2 rj45 plugs on the ends i would put 2 rj45 sockets on the walls and then put a rj45 lead from the router to the socket and then a 2nd lead from the 2nd socket to the dreambox, simple as i thought as i have a temperory lead thrown on the floor and everything works.i have wired the sockets both ways 568a and 568b and i do not get a dsl signal.is there something i am doing wrong or is there something i am overlooking, any help appreciated

    Hi Lads,

Back again with one or two questions if people have time.

Have the local cardsharing going ok now but I'm running out of home plugs. What I am trying to do is take a connection from one homeplug into a netgear wireless router, take the output of that into the dreanbox and a computer and use the wireless.

For some reason when I'm now on the wirless in that network I can;t seem to ftp to the other dreamboxes on the network.

I'll try and explain it a bit here:

Internet coming in in the attic, going into home plugs, home plugs around the house going to computers and dreamboxes, fine.

One home plug going to wireless, a computer (b) and a dreambox (b).

computer (b) and dreambox (b) can get online but cannot get access to other computers on the homeplug network??

I'm reading about port forwarding but not really sure where to go.

    Thanks
    Gary

P.S. Hard to scroll through the contents of this thread. Just wondering if there's any good tute on how to go from local card sharing to share with one of the lads over the road??

    Thanks again
    Gary

by nature you have dynamic ip. so u need to set up an account on dyndns, then you use the dyndns ip dummy name instead of internal ip address. and thats it. yes you can run a homeplug into netgear. however you still need to run cable from netgear to dreambox. and now your dreambox is on a secondary network. so now you need to route your first router to your second router using port forwarding

Aw guys i had a big reply typed, but chrome died on me, for the millionth time. Its bloody awful...
    Excuse my brevity here...

Some q's if you have a moment!

Whats the l3gal story with CS? Can shy trace it?
Anyone use a better box than the DM500S? What are the higher models like?

Can this be set up, with the shy card in the DM sharing with an orig shy box? I doubt it, any idea? Id be sharing with an elderly couple, who took a while to get used to shy interface/remote so a DM would takes ages again.

    Thanks guys!

PS - anyone know are DM500C/T sellable? Ive a full mmds and cable setup, that id trade for DM500s

if you were using sly broadband it might be possible for sly to see you then ,but if your using another internet service supplier you should be ok .you cant share with any sky box , i use a dm7020 which i find to be excellent but however its not hd .all being well i plan in the future to upgrade to the new dm7020 hd ,however as you go up through the models the price rises quite a bit. a dm800 hd is about £200 a bit more in euros not including p+p . a dm500s is a good cheap way to get started and learn at about £50 but it wont give hd channels and is limited in memory. for an elderly person if they can work a sky box i think they should be ok with a dm500s as long as they only stick to changing channels and you do anything else for them such as a channel scan.you may be able to use the dm500c/t boxes in the future so i would keep them for a bit and see what happens.

    yup
quite possible man, you can share your own sub between your house only or set up a small network to include friends but best to conquer your own at first, there are alot of guides an tutorials on this, go check the satellite.co.uk forum it will open your eyes so much wider!

you would need two dreamboxes to share in your home ,one would have the sky card in it (the server) and the other box the box sharing the card would be a client. you cant use a sky box for card sharing .as your subscription is for the hd channels you would need hd dreamboxes to view these channels such as the dm800hd .
here are a few threads you could read
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-59/card_sharing_via_satalite_dish_ireland-841580
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f...o_setting_up_a_dm500s_for_cardsharing-846800/
and of course the thread your reading will provide a lot of good info .
