yes dan you have to open a port on your friends router portforward.com show you how ,first you need to look for your friends router in this list
    http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
then click on default guide for that router for instructions to open the port . your friend will then need to set up a dyndns hostname and download and install the dyndns updater (its free ) go here to set up a dyndns host name
http://www.dyndns.com/ the hostname will replace the ip address on your mates box and off course he will need a static ip on both his dreambox and pc .your mate can download the updater here
    http://www.dyndns.com/support/clients/
you can get more info from my tutorial by clicking on the link in my signature area.

naz for around £200 you could get a dm800 hd

Naz, think carefully about where you buy your box from, I recently bought a 800 from 'dreaminthebox' and my experience with them is not good, 6 days old, and the box fell over, I have sent e-mails to them, they responded, with little sympity, and no Joy at this stage on how to fix the box, there is a problem with 'Tunar'. So beware.

I would go with piopat on this one, they may be a tad dearer but seem to be reliable with plenty of backup available, again its your choice at the end of the day.

sorry for double posting guys piopat this is what i have
ok sorry there wasnt much info b4 was getting late this is what ive done so far.....ok so i have myserver box setup and im able to share internaly but looking to share with nextdoor so i have set my ip to static and i have opened port 12000 on my router also i have set up a dyndns acount and downloaded the updater and i have changed the port in my server box to 12000 from 80 and the client box is still at 80 i have also changed the c line in the client box to C:XXXXX.dyndns.org 12000 user pass but there is just a few things i am unsure of...........

when setting up my dyndns am i right in thinking when entering the ip it should be the srver box ip?? if so when i start the updater it says current ip and its totaly different to the one i set on my dyndns

when opening the port on my router i used simple port forwarding so i checked on my router on the firewall rules and it says
    inbound services
1 enabled service namee tv action allow always lan server ip address 192.168.x.x which is my pc ip is this right

your dyndns will replace the server box ip (which must be static) so put the static ip of the server into your dyndns account ,download the updater and put in the username and password of your dyndns account and the updater should say synchronising with your dyndns.you can leave the port in the server box set to 80.the only difference between the internal c line and the external is that you substitute the ip address with the dyndns hostname and of course you add a username and password ,the f line is the username and password you put in the c line and any additions you choose to add to it.

when the router is activated it will look for ip address everytime thats why setting a static address avoids this

dan, most folk have a dynamic ip. dreambox supports this by updating using inadyn plugin. if you have a static ip it does not change. so why would you need to update it.

honey, not likely, though i will show them how to share safely. that is what is important to me, members are not put at risk. my share is mine for my friends. it will die as sky put countermeasures in place but it will have been fun not a business venture.
