sim card/unlock phone ?'s

    Hello,
    I am in the US and I am about to go oversees for a few months. I currently have a (Sprint) Palm Treo 755. Is there anyway I can use this phone oversees if I get a sim card installed? If so what do I need to do? If not do I need to find a different type of phone. Also how does the sim card work? If I was to get one installed does it matter what region I'm in? Or will it work anywhere? I am kind of new to this so I am trying to get a little knowledge.
