I finally ran across a Ripguard movie "Landscapes in the Mist" (NOT by Universal or Dreamworks by the way) and it was pretty simple. I did it slightly differently than in Alkohol's guide. I left in all of the extra PGCs except for the last one and blanked out some cells in Chapter 1 of the main movie. This worked as well. Just a question though, Does DVD Shrink get past the initial (quick) Analysis straight from the DVD? I ask this because the movie I have gave DVD Shrink no Problems when I analyzed the DVD (before the rip). Just after the analysis, there was 1MB of unreferenced material.
on dvd shrink its got a guick and a deep anaylis and does 1 from the open disc feature that takes about 1 min. and another before burning. then the encoding process, takes about 35-45 mins total. and the unrefrenced material i get that alot when i burn. What does that mean? plus i use nero 2 burn while in dvd shrink could that be why the unref. material?
is there a Mac equivalent of VobBlanker? MacTheRipper does great ARccOS extraction, but doesn't provide a file mode, or a VOB blanking ability. thanks!
I've tried Alkohol's method and now I get invalid access to memory location. I used DVD Decrypt and then VobBlanker and the Shrink. That didn't work at all. Then I tried DVDFab then VobBlanker then Shrink. This time when I open the files with Shrink I get "Failure to read file VTS_01_0.vob Invalid access to memory location". Please help. All software is most recent except DVDFab is v2.9.6.5. (If it helps, I'm running an emachines W2260 WindowsXP, AMD anthelon XP 2200+ processor, 60GB HDD, 256MB)
Try blanking out the corrupted cells as well. These will be the very short ones. There is a chance that those corrupt cells are still causing problems.
I've never used VobBlanker before but it seems pretty straight forward. The problem I'm having is opening the Video_TS.IFO. Ive copied Sky High using DVD Decrypter but when I browse to open the file in VobBlanker, it says "Video_TS.IFO file not found" (even though I can see it). It finds the files easily straight from the disk but that doesn't help. When I "Process", I recive an error that I reached the end of VTS too fast (or something like that). So, I have the VTS filees on my back up hard drive and can't get VobBlanker to "find" the file. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
You need to rip it with DVD Decrypter via Mode, File F or DVDFAB Decrypter in order to function properly with VobBlanker. It won't work if you ripped it with Mode, ISO, Read R on DVD Decrytper.
i used alkohol's method and it worked great. i am a newbie so i had to read the instructions several times before proceeding. thanks alkohol for all the help.
@DJFAST You're welcome, glad I could help and you were able to have a successful backup followed the "mini guide". Enjoy your backup now, good luck and happy burning!!
Well, I had used DVD Decrypter via Mode, File F and VobBlanker just wouldn't recognize the files. I used DVDFab and followed Alkohol's et. al's directions including DVD Shrink and DVD Dycrypter for burning and I have a complete back up. Thanks you guys!!! This is a great resource. Cheers!
Weird, I had no problems with Madagascar, but did with Sky High. Trying Alkohol's fix now. Pardon the potential off topic post, but I am new here. How does anydvd do with autogk? I normally like to rip to avi files. Thanks to all contributors, this is a great resource!
@Viajero, If you rip to avi files, then AnyDVD is a waste of money. Just use IFO mode and get the main movie and skip the ARccOS or Ripguard. After that, you can convert the movie with no problem since it will be just like an ordinary media file.
Another newb here Oddly enough, I am getting a message that says that VTS_02_01 does not exist, but then again after I run it through DVD Decrypter I notice that I really does not exist in the original...should I just blank that out too? Thanks
Are you sure that VTS_02_1.VOB does not exist? If this is the case, then yes, you would have to blank out VTS_02.
