So, I attach my bba, hook up the ethernet, boot off of the SD card, put in my original and... what next? This is where it falls apart for me.

in GCoS there is an option to create a backup. You have to have the ip adresses set up properly with your computer then click on on the gamecube. It will identify the disk and tell you to connect to an address using IE, Firefox or something and when you visit the address it will copy the disk to your computer (you can click Save-As and select a location)

Ok i got a problem here...
SD Media Launcher works fine but when i try to boot my games from the gcos 1.5 it says it doesn't recognize the media.
(In Gcos1 it shows me some numbers and an ok next to them, but the game fails to boot)

    -I use Sony dvd-r mini dvd's because i couldn't find something else

Will it work if i burn the games on a TDK mini dvd,or do i have to adjust my laser?

    Thanks in advance :)

Hey, this is a great guide btw. Thanks for sharing. I was wondering if it's better / easier for a n00b to take this route of soft-modding a Gamecube with the SD Media Launcher... or by purchasing a modchip like Viper GC / Extreme.

    Thanks.

mod Chip is very simple. Aside from some sodering (I'm sure you must know someone who could do it, it's very simple)

Also mod-chips are not very expensive and once installed it is very simple for anyone to use. Put the disk in and turn it on :)

hey i was wondering if any1 tried memorex dvds with this. I know that they are bad media with ps2 but does it apply to gamecube too? I ask because there are so many good sales on memorex media in my area.

Hey, are these tools the only things I need to run backups on my GameCube with the SD Media Launcher...?

    1. 1-2 Gig SD Card
    2. Datel GameCube/Wii SD Media Launcher
    3. RiData Ritek G04 Mini-DVD-Rs
    4. Gamebit (for opening GameCube if needed to adjust POT [laser setting])

    ? Am I missing anything else :/

yes liero. make sure you have the GCOS dol file on your sd card.

    and uh.....

can som1 please answer this question?

Also on there US site, Datel seems to be out of stock with the regular SDL (the one with no sd card). So those of you who want that you will have to wait. I tried contacting sales to see if they have an estimate on when they will be back in stock but it went to voicemail everytime. Are they not open on weekends or something? I'll try again on Monday. Anyway that package is a good choice for people who want to use 4 GB cards which work on the cube rite?

Hmm... thanks for sharing. That sucks though. :/ ... I also had a question about the size of the SD card needed for this. To run backups, can I just use a 1 Gig card or is there some advantage when using cards that are like 2, 4, or even 8 Gigs?

I'm thinking the only reason with using larger cards would be if one had a lot of ROMS for emulating like a SNES...?

Maybe you'll have some luck using Memorex Dvds, but from what I've gathered from all the crap I've read about GC modding... you may have an easier time just using the Dvds like fujifilm or ritek. Maybe you'll get less DREs?

Well Datel says that it supports up to 4 GB but he prob is I dont know if it supports every brand of sd card. i doubt 8 gb would work. If it did prob not correctly.

Yea you're right. Looks like no matter what console i'm dealing with, Memorex always seems to be the worst media. And I love it how they have so many sales on them. Then the best media like ritek I can't even find in stores only the fujifilm ones. Just like with Taiyo Yuden on ps2. Can't find it in local stores but the Verbatims are always there. Well I guess I can't complain seeing as the verbatims are good so I hope the same for the fujis.

What I want now is to kno when Datel will restock and for them to do it asap. I already made an order so I better get a refund if they don't mail. I can't even call them cause the sales # always goes to answering machine.

The weird thing is I tried to contact their product support and they don't even have SDL as one of their options! I tried Wii and GC and they just skipped it. MAX Drive/PRO was their but not SDL. I hope they haven't ceased production cause I already made an order on gaming lagoon and I'll just take my pts back and save up for the 1 gb bundle if they don't ship this reg one.

Well, I just got off the phone with one of their customer service people and they said that they still do carry the media launchers (the one with no SD card, the 1 Gig, and the 2 Gig), and that the brand of SD card (like Sandisk) doesn't matter--just that the launcher can't take more than 2 Gigs. :) Plus, they said that why its not included in the support options is because they have no executables or downloads for it (obviously).

Okay, just got off the phone with a support tech guy and he said that since their headquarters is based in the UK, they don't know exactly when it will be back in stock. But because I was still able to place the order, he said that when it does ship, I will then be invoiced for it--or I can cancel my order at any time.

So I guess, we just gotta wait. :p
