I have had no problems burning games that are not exactly and have them working, I have burned 9 games that maybe 6 or so were no where near 1.45gb and worked flawlessly.

You shouldn't have a problem burning the information to the mini disc in a standard burner. There is a little indentation on the tray where you place the mini disc.

Does anyone have the SD Media Launcher software for NTSC? I ordered the SD Media Launcher for US Consoles but for some reason the Media Launcher disc that came with it is for European consoles.

Just a quick update for anyone thinking of ordering...

I placed the SD media launcher on order around the 15th of this month and got a shipment confirmation email with a tracking # (number didn't work however) 12 days later when it still hasn't arrived I call datel and the customer service guy tells me it's out of stock and has no idea when it's coming back in.

He said he's "pretty sure" it's still in production. I have no idea when it's going to arrive.

Datel has no problem letting you put it on order and pay, but they never tell you it's out of stock.

After a couple of days when my order appeared to be suddenly "out of stock" I talked to a guy from uk condejunkies. He told me that the sd media launcher appeared to be out of stock because of the wii firmware update issue, and that he had no idea about how much time it could take for their staff to update the product. I told him to send it to me because my intention was to use it on a gamecube, and in fact after a week I received the media launcher.

So I think the problem is about this. They're surely not handling the situation in the best possible way eh...

Today I received the following email from Datel:

Dear Mr *****, I can confirm that we do have the product for the sole use with the Gamecube. For me to be able to dispatch your item please supply me with your order number. Thank you for your e-mail. Tony BrothertonCustomer ServicesTel: 0845 070 2571Web: www.max.tv

So it should be on the way, thanks for the post uaibi !

    Hi,

I have an NTSC cube and I'm using a LG burner. I purchased the SD media launcher and then I purchased some Ritek mini-DVD's and I downloaded GCOS 1.x.

When I burn using Imgburn, it only allow me to burn at 4x speed. Because it showed that the "Supported speed" of the disc is 4x only. I burned about 9-10 games but only 2 worked... None of the PAL worked.

I want to try everything I can before opening up the cube to adjust the pot. Here are my questions:

    1. Does anyone know how I can override the imgburn burn speed to 1x for the Ritek DVD-R?
    2. Where can I download "GCOS LIBOGC PUBLIC BETA.DOL"? The link is dead.
    3. Someone here said that he can boot a PAL game on a NTSC cube, and some said that they can't. Is there a way that somebody can actually do that? Or is the final answer is a NO, you can't cross boot games with a different system?

    Thanks.

PS. when I first got my SD media launcher, although the box says it was for US consoles, the disc that came with it was actually for European systems. I had to call my seller and then mailed me the correct disc. So I guess if you can't boot up the disc, it might be because of a wrong disc.

The final answer is NO, you cannot boot PAL games on an NTSC system.

that's not true, I have an NTSC Gamecube, soft modded with the SD Media Launcher (1GB) and I loaded RE0, RE4 and Zelda:TP, all PAL versions without problems. I had an option to change the video frequency to 60hz before the game loaded. The game loaded fine, all fullscreen, no black borders, with proper audio too.

The answer is at the first page of this topic if u didnt realised it, near the end.
You boot the SD Media Launcher disc in your Gamecube, then you load one of the GCOS.dol file that u have on the SD card. I am using the 1.5 beta and the new GCoS libogc Public Beta version for multidisc games like RE0 and RE4. When the OS loaded, u choose Boot game/disc. There u swap disc and press A. The gamecube will mount the disc, gives you infos about the region etc. And u have 3 or more options about the game loading method. If u have an NTSC GC and NTSC game, then choose auto detect region (button A) (same for PAL GC and PAL game). If u have an NTSC GC and a PAL game (or vice versa), then Press X or Y for force NTSC or force PAL modes (u force the video mode as your console and not as the game, otherwise, the screen will roll in B&W. Then the game will load, all in fullscreen (wich means the screen is not offset on your TV) and color

Hmm, this works with all versions of the Gamecube I presume? Anyone know where I can find a cheap place that sells the SD Media Launcher which ships to Sweden?

Seems that pretty much the only people posting about this are people with problems, so I thought I would give some advice from a successful setup (in the UK).

I have a black PAL gamecube and have not had to adjust the POT at all. So far I have only had one media error from GCOS, and the second attempt read fine. Granted I have only tried launching games about 8/9 times so far.

What most people seem concerned with is the burning process. I have a Pioneer DVR-109 DVD-RW drive, and bought the first discs I could get my hands on without going online; which are Maxell DVD-R discs (don't be put off by pretty much all mini-DVD's being advertised as camcorder/video discs - it makes no difference), I got 10 of these on a spindle for £8 from ASDA. I think I got lucky here because ImgBurn detects the manufacturer of these discs as "RITEKG04 01", which I have read are the best type of media to use. I burnt using ImgBurn at 1x for the first few, and then bumped it up to 2x, everything still works fine.

I got my SD Media Launcher (w/ 1gb SD card) from www.thegametrain.com for £25, and added a £3 screwdriver bit for opening the case if I needed to adjust the POT. With postage it was just over £30. If you can find any sellers of the SD Media Launcher without an included SD card, then get that instead, because you only need 0.5mb space on the SD card - using a 1gb card is a waste.

This method of playing backups is very simple, it may seem slightly complicated from the initial post, but the steps listed there are baby steps.

Message me with anything you'd like to know more about.

i have a question. I heard that this SD Gecko is more convenient b/c we can run any type of homebrew application and the iso within the SD card. Correct me if i am wrong.

I assume if I was to load GCoS(PSO).dol with the PSO/BBA approach I would be able to do this as well. I already have the BBA and don't need to throw down another $40 to get the SD loader and an SD card if I already can do it.

I was reading that you can backup somehow through the bba, which seems simpler than trying to find a certain dvd drive. But does this work with this soft-mod? and how would I accomplish such?

I read that you can do backups with the BBA too, can't remember exactly where I read it but I imagine it'll give you a .gc or an .iso image so you can just burn as mentioned in the original post.
