Softmod No Dash Error #7

I read through a few tutorials and found some possible solutions, unfortunately they have not worked for me.

I recently modded a version 1.0 xbox using the Ndure softmod. I used a pc and swaped the HDD to run linux on the xbox. After it was modded, i was welcomed with the Ndure dashboard and i was able to FTP files. I FTP'd XBMC onto the /apps/ directory and once finished, i was able to load it with no problem. I was trying to make XBMC my "home screen" or boot dash and i was replacing the trying to overide the default.xbe file when the xbox crashed.

When i restarted the xbox i was welcomed by the error 7 screen "contact microsoft". I got a copy of Slayer's auto installer disc and was able to play it through the DVD rom. I installed EVO and all of the other apps to see if the default xbe. Once i restarted, i had no luck, still got error 7. Now, since i ran the installer, the DVD Rom does not read the disc.

I have another modded xbox which is working, so i tried as someone else suggested, swap hard drives. i was able to swap them and when i turned on the xbox the first time, nothing loaded. I used Slayer's installer disc and now when i turn it on, i am able to load to the EVO dashboard. So the harddrive works fine.

When i reconnect the HDD to the xbox it belongs to, i still get error 7.

Wondering if i should just try to run the NDURE again, or if there is any other solution. As stated, the HDD works fine.

I have copied the C and other folders from the working modded xbox so i can also load them on the HDD usin xplorer.

Any ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Error 7 will be caused by a failing HDD, it doesn't mean it's completely dead!

The discs within are getting weak and are starting to rattle (Error 7 is normally accompanied by the famous 'Click Click' noise)

Ensure that the IDE cables are OK and also the pins on the HDD. The Xbox HDD should be set to 'Cable Select' also!

    ;)

Thanks for the info. I dont know if it is necessarily the HDD as when i connect that drive to the other xbox, it launches the dash with no problem.

When i connect the 120 drive from my chip modded box the retail xbox goes into the same error screen. I dont know if it is error 7 exactly, someone mentioned that it could be, let me check the error screen to make sure.

I have a backup of the C drive (retail).

Can i connect it to my chip modded box, ftp the c drive and delete all other E: etc and try to start that way?

What files and folders should a normal c drive have? I want to make sure that i am not missing anything. thanks

Placing the Chipped HDD into the retail will most likely give you either Error 5 or Error 6. This is because you can't change HDDs in retail Xboxs!

Again, if the HDD is worlking in the chipped console, replace the IDE cable in the retail one. Upgrade them to ATA133 cables (80 Pin) and you'll get faster load times!

im locked out eeprom deleted * so im fuc@ed right??

aparently if i take the eeprom chip out of a damaged xbox and replace it in myn i can rebuild the hard drive as long as i no the eeprom number off the damaged xbox

failing that in my studdies to date im buggard the famous click error 7

I have now learnt the hard way despite wat may go wrong with the installer if you get ftp access back up the c and e folders before you do anything i had read it saying make sure you do ect ect but because of the langage being wrong on the installer i didnt bother and tried to reinstall an english verson got the error 7

however i did manage i think to back up my eeprom on my xbox before error 7 ....but no way to access the locked drive or is there......

i think its fair to say that after every thing i have tried and my countless hours of effort i have to give in and eccept that the xbox haswon it has beaten my in the fight to recover it

TIME OF DEATH XBOX ERROR 7 9.39pm

for all the effort ive put in 90 buks at the porn shop is far better than the countless hours i have spent

my own fault tho being a newbey these things happen
