Not to worry. Both Anydvd and CloneDVD both come with free lifetime updates, so no $$$ necessary (for origional purchasers).

IMHO Anydvd is the best there is.

I value your opinion. Why is it better than DVDFab? I want the best. Do you use CloneDVD also? Convert me. I'm due for a change.

    Reasons

    1) Anydvd seems to produce cleaner rips than dvdfab
    2) Seems as if the updates for anydvd are more inclusive than dvdfab (as of yet fab has not addressed the Leatherheads issue of not ripping whereas anydvd had an update for Leatherheads the same date of release)
3)seems as if fab needs more updates to stay current with the new releases than anydvd

    My method of ripping

    1) Latest anydvd and ripit4me 1710 (rip to HDD)
    a) if this fails, then anydvd ripper alone, with devices set to slow and quiet, and rip to HDD
    2) Vob Blanker
    3) dvd shrink to transcode to iso
    4) burn with imgburn

I don't use clone ( it does not let me edit the dvd, only gives a full disc or movie only transcode)

Cardinal, a few of us have had no problem ripping Leatherheads with dvdfab, where as others have. Since everything seems to be outsourced these days, I would dare to state that some of the factories do not have as good of presses as others.

Brother rtm, point well taken. It makes me cringe, when we speak of the politicians saying keeping jobs domestic, and then seeing on the package "disc made in Mexico" and packaged in "Taiwan", epecially by Disney dvds.

In a previous thread I spoke of multiple encryptions on a single dvd issue (not different versions, as spec ed). What we may have seen was different encryption schemes on a single issue to confuse the "backing up public". This is why so members at aD had no issues backing up Letherheads, whereas some (me) had a terrible time with it (fab was of no value).

This is what I spoke of. Rtm , you are fully correct in your observation.

    @ Peshtigo

Do not be swayed by the pointed tongue of those offering change at the price of your soul! The Cardinal offers to show you the path to happiness, but what price are you willing to pay? Everything that glitters is not gold. And even if it was gold, platinum (as in DVDFab Platinum) trumps gold everytime. So beware, as the eternal battle of the "Rippers" rages on.

Just kiddin, as I was slightly bored and wanted to prod at endo. When I used the free trial of AnyDVD, it was a great program and had no problems with anything I threw at it. I just haven't been able to talk myself in to paying the price they ask for it now that it changed to Euros. Sorry rtm, I have to post a smiley here.[IMG]

    1) DVDFab HD Decrypter (to rip to HDD)
    2) FixVTS (to help cleanup the files)
    3) DVDShrink (to shrink to DVD5)
    4) ImgBurn (to burn to disk)

All are free and very easy to use.
