I am trying to help a friend pick out a laptop. We have kind of settled in on the Sony VGN-FZ190 CTO as our favorite. Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7300 / 2.0 GHz * 2 GB DDR-SDRAM (DDR2-667MHz, 1 GBx2) * 250 GB Hard Disk Drive * SuperMulti (DVD+-R Double layer / DVD+-RW Drive) * 15.4" WXGA (HC) W/CMR * NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT * Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium * 802.11a\b\g\n with BT * Microsoft Works * Music Plus * Photo Standard * Video Standard * QB Basic * Norton Internet Security 2007 (Trial) * Standard Capacity Lithium-ion Battery (BPS8) For 1,700 Now I have heard that the low end 8 series card (like the 8400M GT we are getting) are pretty bad for laptops and you would be better off to go with a good 7 series card. Is this something that we should be concerned about? Also what do you think about the over all setup. He pretty much has to have a big hard drive like a 250 gig is really the only thing acceptable which narrowed the search a lot. Also he wanted the 15.4" screen not the massive units with the 17" widescreens. Thanks for your time and thoughts.
Not many laptop graphics cards are that good, and that's no exception, only go with the 7 series if you can get a Go7900, they're really good, but probably expensive, and I don't know whether you can get them any more. An 8600M wouldn't be too bad, but the 8400 won't be great for gaming.
