mdovell, hi mine doesn't work i only pick up channels 1-30 on the splitter that i put on the main line of the cable wire coming from the pole outside of my house. i only have one box which is connected on my living room. i tried to hook up my bedroom and kids room but i could only get channels 1 thru 30. you mentioned an rca pvr where do you get these? also i subscribe to channel 279 and 280 my tv do not go over 125 do you have an idea on how i can get my tv to go to channel 279 and 280? or should i just return the cable box that i have recieve so that i can access channel 1-99. but the problem is if i return the cable box i might not be able to get channel 279 and 280. could you pls help me with my problem just to let you know i am from los angeles and yes it is digital komkast is this what you have too? also, on the satellite so i dont have to be subscribe to a satellite company to get a free satellite? i had check a site that sells a box for satellite $300.00 and they said i dont need a satellite connection and that all i have to do is buy this box and try it for 30 days and i will get free satellite is this true? you mentioned that direct tv and dishnetwork have upgraded boxes and the they might be apt to giving the old boxes for free where can i get old direct tv and dishnetwork boxes? or u said you paid $75 for your voom box where did you get yours? pls help me and thank you. oh and just to sum things up let me guess if i understand what you are saying that all i need to have is a satellite box and OTA (rabbit ears antenna) to get free satellite? what channels will you get on free satellite?

@jacckk, It looks like you are receiving channels 1-30 in analog form so all your tvs should receive those without any boxes. It sounds like all your other channels are digital. At this time I haven't found any outside source for the purchase of a set top digital tuner. The cable companies are keeping a tight reign on those items. I'm not saying there isn't any out there but they are extremely hard to find. As to the FTA channels you possibly may receive I'll send you a PM. There are some things we shouldn't talk about in open forum.

At the top right of each post in the orange area it says REPORT AN OFFENSIVE POST, and just right of that is figure of a persons head. If you click that on one of my posts you can send me a Private Message (PM) through Afterdawn. No e-mail address needed. It would be best to remove your E-mail address from the last post so spammers don't use it. On your own posts, instead of the person icon, there should be an edit icon there. That will open up the old post and let you change anything in it. Then click save changes at the bottom.

things are partially down at the moment, your best bet would be to try after a fix is out.

Im getting ready to cancel Dishnetwork, they will probably leave their Dishes. Will Someone recomend a bx along with ProgDVB v4.74 that will work with these Dishes.
Also with the DVB-PCI cards.Do U need the settop box like the ones sold at global
If not, then just what I might need to get started..REAL real new to this.
Where can I go to find out just exactly what I might be able to recieve

dartnip, hi do you backup your dvd? what is the best brand for blank dvd-r? where can you get it for a cheap price?

jacckk..If your going to buy them at a retail store, get Verbatims [25,50,100 pk].But if U buy on line U have more.Cheap Disc's give U PROBLEMS,cheap not meanig PRICE choices,[Ritek,Taiyo-Yuden,Verbatim].When buying on-line try to get the 1's labeled Hub-Printable very nice white blank surface.THAT WAY U can get a ERSON R-300,R200,THIS WILL LET u PRINT A NICE LABEL on your Disc.
Supermedia Store,Meritline are 2 very reliable stores.U can get Disc's for about 00.35cents apiece..I strongly recomend U buy a small pack of DVD RW's.
U never did say if U had a DIVX DVD Player or not..[this is my preference PhilipsDVP5140]WalMart 60.bucks.
Did U find the other programs alright. All of what U want & need can be found on the NET

rick, thank you for the info that helps a lot. as for the divx dvd player question i have a regular dvd and thinking of getting a dvd recorder do you have a suggestion on what would be the best brand to get but excellent quality and cheap price? also would you suggest to get a combo one that plays vhs and dvd and also records on either one? thank you for the help.

jacckk..Don't know about video recorders as i use my computer W/TV Card..But their are a lot of DIVX DVD Players on the market now.I've got 4,my last purchase was a Phillips DVP5140-@ WalMart for 55bucks.I'm pleased with it for the price.I don't think U will find a Player W/all the bells & whistles. So I just settle for 1 that plays what i want at a quality thats good & a price that is affordable

VHS IS DEAD.but i would not buy a combo..1goes bad your out both..most people still have VHS Players..why pay xtra for another
Also I'm assuming U mean DIVX DVD Player when U say RECORDER

rick, i dont know what a divx is. all i want is to be able to record some tv show that is why i want to buy one. so is divx a dvd recorder? oh yeah and you mention your computer with tv card can you record a tv show on your computer? what stuff would i need and how much will it cost me and where can i get it? oh yeah i am looking for a pioneer external dvd burner that is cheap would have any suggestions on where to look at any local computer stores i am from CA. u also mentioned about a printer that prints on the dvd how much do they go for and are those printable disc expensive? those disc that are not printable can you buy lables on those?

jacckk..OK!I'll try to answer all your questions
1-a DivX is a video compression it takes up 1/4 or even less space then a DVD
2-Again don't know about DVD Recorders
3-Yes I can record a TV show on my computer..I have dishnetwork reciever hooked up to a TV card
4-ADS makes some good products frm what I've read they do a very good job, also external USB HOOK-ups.U would have to check some forums on TV Cards, for Quality & ease of software..Myself I've got an ATI all-in-wonder 9000 Pro,payed about 200bucks,U can find cards frm 20to500bucks.I don't use bundled software cause U never get the full Versions.I just use card for captureing in Mpeg-2,I use Womble Mpeg-VCR to cut out comercials,I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to convert to DVD & Burn..SOUNDS hard but its not.The hardest & longest is removing the comercials
5-The Epson Stylus Photo R200,R300 range frm 100to 200bucks,the ink is expensive if U use the Epson brand.I use GENERIC that I buy on the Net for about 4to5bucks[Works Great]The printed surface DVD'S [Ritek,Taiyo-Yuden,Verbatim] run 30 to 40cents a piece on the Net buying in Quantities of 50,100,200 [I never buy less then 100 at a time]I always check for sales & free shipping,to keep prices DWN..I don't suggest paper labels for 2 reasons[1]they do come off in your DVD Player, what a bitch[2]COST U can't find them cheap & U need a special aparatus to but them on your Disc[time consuming]
5-Ben-Q would be a better DVD Burner about 40bucks,U can buy an external 5 1/2in Cs to put it in frm 30to60bucks,U might find one already in a cs.CompUSA,BestBuy,CircuitCity, would be where to look localy..NewEGG-on the net

Everything YOU'VE Written about is going to cost a small bundle.I would think about 300bucks or even a little more to get started
    Stay in touch!!!

rick, hi, i am not a computer person so i think i would stick with just a dvd recorder. maybe you can edit commercials there when you record a show. and thank you for all the other info. :)

oh yeah i forgot the philips that you mentioned on your previous post is that a dvd player/recorder?

jacckk..It's not just a DVD Player,it's a Divx DVD Player, but not a Recorder. If BY Chance U happen to find U missed or screwed up an episode.U can always D/L it off certain sites in this format [Divx,Xvid,AVI].This type of player will allow U to play the file, where as a regular DVD Player won't.Divx players are really no difference in price, but give U a larger varity of playable formats
AVI'S are just a more compressed file..EXAMPLE:1Hr of AVI 350million bytes,1Hr of a standard recorded DVD is about 2,548million bytes

lol jackk, divx is a codec as rick told you, you cant buy a "divx" get a dvd recorder then later if you want you can convert those episodes you record on dvd's to DivX you can. Since there are no dvd recorders that can record straight to divx (to my knowledge) you have to record to dvd material.
