I bought this dvd burner and life was great, for the first month.I
decided it was time to mover on up from my Sony CDRW drive to a DVD
burner which is the Sony DVD RW DL (model no. DW-D22A).After a about
a month to 45 days, this drive can no longer "see" DVD media. It sees
compact discs fine but will not acknowelege DVDs anymore.See this list of things I tried to troubleshoot:

1.)Uninstalling from device manager + reboot

2.)Unistalling some programs to eliminate driver conflicts

    3.)reformated hard-disk - New Operating System.

    4.) ???????????????

I would like to talk to anyone who has experienced similiar problems
with optical drives that they were able to resolve.

You didnt say anything about firmware. Do you know what version firmware you have in it? May just need to update the firmware for new media. Also just so you know that drive is sony oem of the liteon sohw 1633s

OH and the thread might get moved to better fitting location but i will try to help if can.

AH! I always feel so refreshed after a failed firmware update.
I think the only other option here is beating this drive to
pieces and selling it to the scrap yard.A word to the wise
    everyone,this Sony DVD-RW drive is horseshit.(Model DW-D22A)
Tried everything known to man to make this piece of crap
work again. This drive does not have a firmware update,so i
    cross flashed,....same crap.

    Hello Runner,
I have the Sony DW-D22A, and it works great :^)
Clearly there is a problem with your unit's DVD optics...?
My unit, although inexpensive, came with a 12 month warranty.
Just take it back to the store!
BTW, the Lite-On IT firmware will "fail to find Lite-On device" and will not flash.
This is good, because a flash would definitely be blamed for your unit's failure, when you brought it back ;^(
Mr. Sony does not want people saying that - which is why the units are guaranteed for 1 year.
    Regards

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on the post.As for the drive,
I now have a VERY fast CDRW spare.I bought this from ZIP ZOOM FLY
(.com) so by the time I paid for freight to/from I would nealry
be able to replace anyways :). again THANX!!
