Well I just need to know how to start my computer from the beggining. I dont care about my files. Just tell me how to backup my OS. Or what to do.
you're going to need to listen to me then and try to use the correct terminalogy. you're not trying to "restart your computer over from the beginning," you're trying to "restore your system or reinstall your operating system." first things first: we're going to try to do one last restore. when your computer boots up, select the System Restore option given on your bootscreen, go through, and select what is called (i believe) the "destructive restore." this will destroy all your files and "reset" windows. now, if that doesn't work, you're going to do a clean install of XP Home. but first, try this last restore.
if it doesn't, then we'll just keep working at it and reinstall Windows. there's no reason to panic or worry. have patience, and things will work out.
do you have your restore cd's when you got the computer?? post all the devices in the device manager like videocard, netcard, ide controller, usb & soundcard so can download updated drivers after reloading windows from scratch.
he's told me (through various threads and pm's) that he never got any restore discs with the compie and he really doesn't want to contact emachines for them.
Did you put in a aftermarket soundcard. Or is this problem from the sound that came with your computer. Cuz if the sound is running off the Motherboard I can't help you much. But If you bought a sound card either it just went out, or from the looks of it, you forgot to desable you onboard audio first before you tried to install the aftermarket one.
well, we'll know soon enough if he needs to do a fresh install. most likely, he will. he's just gonna have to either cough up the bucks for xp (or create such an appearance) or live with no sound. i don't think he has enough knowledge (god knows i don't) to go around, changing driver files by hand.
Hey it worked. Just what I wanted. It looks like a new PC. Hey kool. Thanks AUS and ddp I know you wanted to help. Thanks AUS once agin. My PC is running faster than ever.
np...i had to use it once myself, so i had a little bit of knowledge here. glad to help. let's hope things go a little more smoothly this time, eh? lol. to quote my master tech-ai, teach and learn.
