It all depends on how much of that data found on the original disc your are trying to work with. If you rip the movie only with DVDFab HD Decrypter you can, in some cases, eliminate alot of data from being ripped, thus reducing your rip time. It also comes into play on the transcode/encode time as the less data that you have to compress, the less time it will take to accomplish the task. There are also the Quality Controls and other enhancements in DVD Shrink/Recode that will add to your compression time.
Thanks so much for all the help and ideas!! This process isn't as easy as it used to be with only shrink and nero (all in 1 step)!!
If you shed a few bucks, you can still make it all in one step. Like buying an on-the-fly decrypter- AnyDVD. The price is kinda spicey here in US now though, with the euro/$$ exchange rate. Or, DVDFab Platinum, will do it all-in-one.
I'm going through the process in an effort to save money, though. I have spent a lot of money already on my DVD collection, I don't want to have to spend more just to back it up! The time doing it isn't a huge concern, I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong due to it taking so long. I don't mind the time as long as it's done right, though.
I know, I was just saying it. Wasn't really an advice, more of a rhetorical statement:~)! The only paid application that I use is Nero, the rest of them are all freeware. If the time saved with the paid ones would be hours, I would consider maybe. Plus, more controll over the whole process.
True that!! I really only have Nero because it came with the burner I got. I have version 7, though I don't think it's the full version. It does, though, have recode....
