Microsoft AntiSpyware is very good program - currently available free from MS.

AVG is a good anti-virus program and is free for personal use.

Sypbot is also useful and again is free.

    I also use Adaware SE.

This combo works very well - personally I do not like Norton products but others do.

I had a lot of problems with Norton. CCAPP caused most of them. Issue is well documented all over the net (except of norton website, their in denial as usual)

I'm now using AVG (latest), Adaware se, Zonealarm Pro 4.5 If adaware cant handle it then I tend to use hackthis.

I really don't understand this anymore, people if you don't want to see spyware, adware, malware, viruses, yes I said viruses, follow these simple steps.
    1. Reformat Computer
    2. Run Windows Update
    3. Download Firefox
    4. Delete Any Icon that says Internet Explorer
    5. Enjoy

If you can do that you would live spyware, adware, malware, viruses, yes I said viruses... free.... like I have for atleast 9 months now.... wow think of the possiblites

Balable, I belive you are living in some sort of denial. Firefox is a fantastic browser that at the moment is "less vulnerable to attacks". That does not does not does not mean it will protect you from the grim world of malware. Just because you use Firefox does not mean that there arent at least 50 other progs installed on your comp that are capable of accessing the web and bringing all kinds of goodies your way...

My friend, use a firewall, use spyware removal tools, use common sense...

Firefox does own though I'll give you that

Yes, this is very true...the reason why Firefox is so popular now, is because it isn't bogged down by all the junk you get with IE. When Mozilla went ahead and did this, they designed it for the inept computer user. Because unless you KNOW what you are doing people will most likely get some sort of malware or virus. That is why it is so easy to use and customizable. This, coupled with the fact, that it is VERY fast. By the way, if anyone wants another great browser, check out OPERA!

You got that right...now let's be honest. ALOT of people who get bad stuff on their computer don't know the signs or how to deal with it. But to make something for the, ahem, newbie computer user, is a great addition and a sort of added protection to surfing on the web.

Same here, you can NEVER have too many tools to help protect yourself out there!

    I definately agree with that!

    ;)
