I am new to the sight so this may have been asked before but I cant find anything here that works so far. I am having a big problem with downloading the fix for my box. I have downloaded everything onto my laptop, I have connected all the cables, I select the bin file, I hit download and it just sits there at 0% of about 10 secs then a message saying "Flash update Fail". I have set all ports to the correst one (com4 in my case) and still nothing, any advice or help? This is becoming very frustrating. Hope someone has some advise, thanks in advance.
I do have the right cables, a usb to serial cable and a null modem cable. I just cant figure out why it wont download. I have exhausted all ideas at this stage.
If your using XP it should be straight forward enough, however if its Vista , i would suggest you go to one of your mates who have XP and download from there, heres the cables you need : http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/674371
They are the cables I have. Just tried the download with a laptop with XP and its the exact same result as ith Vista, Im bginning to think eitherthe cables I have are faulty or there is something wong with my Box and it wont accept the fix
You might need to install drivers for the usb to serial port adaptor. You can get them here : >>> http://www.gilsson.com/usb_drivers_download.htm
If you have a camera phone, put in on camera mode. Point the remote at the camera lens & press a few buttons. If you see the LED light flashing, then the remote is ok. Unplug the b0x from the mains & open the casing. Press down gently on the connectors (Ribbons at the lcd screen) & see if this does the trick.
Installed the driver too, it was the first thing I did, I have followed every tutorial exactly as descirbed from start to finish and still nothing
Put the b0x on standby then turn it off at the back. Start the download & after about 3 seconds turn the b0x on at the back. This might take a good few attempts, & hopefully it will start downloading.
forget the laptop and use a normal pc it will work first time as i found out after days of trying on my laptop
Tried the 3 sec turn off and stil the same, dont have a PC so it may be difficult to try that one but how ca it be any different from usin a laptop, I have tried this on 3 different laptops now and ll the exact same result. I may be against forum rules but can anyone give me info where i can get the download done for me?
As moh23, has pointed out you will be very surprised at the difference you will find when using a standalone PC with the correct 9 pin serial port, so as to cut out the USB adaptor. In the meantime have you checked here (dooby's guide) to see if it is of any use to you, it just may be if you follow it to the letter. >>>> http://www.freewebs.com/starview-update/
