hi there all, newbie here bought my starview 2 today. I have a laptop with all the necessary software ready to flash step by step guide with null modem cable BUT... My laptop doesnt have the male connection for the null cable modem. Therefore i dont know what to do? Any suggestions how i flash my box and get myself up and running many thanks j.wilson
If your pc does not have a serial port you will need a USB to serial port adapter to use in conjunction with the null modem cable. USB Adapter http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx...t10&doy=search&MenuName=USB to Serial Adaptor These two cable links are only for reference as they can be purchased alot cheaper on fleabay.
thanks very much for the quick reply, will this definately work with putting software and flashing my starview 2 box as if i pay the £20 your sure it will guarantee me a success and get me up and running with my new box??? manuy thanks again j.wilson

Just incase im not here tomorrow if your looking for help The most common issue when installing the USB adapter and driver is selecting the correct port for your map software to recognize. You must make sure your particular software is looking on the correct port for it to transfer any data. To see which port your USB adapter is connected to, connect your USB adapter and follow the following instructions: 1. Go to the Start Menu 2. Right click on "My Computer" 3. Select "Properties" 4. Click on the "Hardware" tab 5. Click on "Device Manager" 6. Click the + sign next to "Ports (COM & LPT)" 7. One of the listed ports should indicate which port your USB adapter is connected to (e.g. COM1, COM2, COM3, etc.) 8. Go back to your map software program that you use to transfer data and make sure it is looking at the correct port. 9. You should be able to transfer data once the correct port is selected If you need drivers go here http://www.gilsson.com/usb_drivers_download.htm Updating Firmware Connect your box and PC with a Null modem cable and switch on the cable box and put it on STANDBY. (The Starvi*w does not need to be connected to TV to update it with GTROM) Open GTROM Loader software make sure that you set the correct COM PORT that matches the one that is being used Make sure App file only is selected, then click Bin File & browse to the firmware where you downloaded it to on your PC. Run the GTROM loader by pressing Download and you will see the % progress increase then Download completed message on your PC. Wait until you see the DOWNLOAD COMPLETE pop up on your PC before removing the NULL MODEM CABLE. The Starvi*w will then reboot Disconnect from PC and connect back up to the TV
I have a twin tuner Star View cable PVR and I've tried to make sense of a couple of things using the threads on this forum but with all the reference to genuine and clone boxes I'm a bit confused! Occasionally it fails to record a program; sometime I get static image and nothing else for the duration of the recording, sometimes I get a blank screen for the duration of the recording and I've even had audio but no image. Sometimes when I turn it on it's stuck on something like 'scrambled or bad channel' though if you get it off it and come back to that channel it decodes just fine! It seems like this has only started happening recently. I was hoping that upgrading the firmware would sort things out, let me know if anyone has any other suggestions, but have a question. When I get th box to display it's spec it says it's "The Box PVR, Dual record PVR, e_Ver 4.000 8 Jun 2007", which folder on http://eko.4shared.com/account/home.jsp should I be looking in? Starview_PVR or 'The Box T'(I presume the T stands for twin tuner?)? My best guess is that it's the former, but don't want to screw the thing up! Cheers in advance!
You will find the latest PVR firmware BoxPVR_E_v4506_15Oct.rar in the Starview PVR Firmware folder, I put it there last week.
There is not much help on here for those boxes as they are just to hard to understand i myself have been doing the starviews and would not have much info concerning these boxes as what i can see from other threads else where they are just to troublesome
Speaking my mind on them they are more trouble as far as i am concerned problems setting them up problems getting them to pause live tv which is almost impossible problems with setting up the stupid loop cables problems getting it to record a program shall i go on i would fill a page they dont work in the C***** area as the firmware dont allow
Thanks maybe they will get their act together some time in the near future and not the distant i hope
Yep but I was still answering queries as in to why the SV1s dont update on Ch**us didnt want to open up that can of worms again, so wouldnt hold my breath on bug fixes.
I see I missed out on a busy evening here lol Took a few hours off tonight , cant mix business with pleasure ha ha
They dont roll because the emm i think they call them are not in there for them to roll but the box does roll and all the others i would not say there are many of the old starviews left anyway most are either dead or dont work or people have upgraded them
