Hi guy's, just wanted to know if there was a solution to the 'flash update failed' ?

I've flashed roughly 15 boxes for my mates over the past few days, and all of a sudden today when I wetn to flash The Box today I got 'flash update failed'.
I'm using right cables and all and after sifting through this thread I tried disabling the anitvirus but still no joy I even did a system restore but still the same.

Just wondering if there was a solution to this.

    Thanks

You need to find the best channel to update it for you, it does need a kickstart, try Sky 2, and leave a little while and if it does not kick in, then flick to another channel, even the God channel, turn off your box and back on, press Set Default Key, and it can go to 160% then start again, but it will eventually kick in.

Please be aware that the new firmware for the box super and the box will not flash on the box if they are clones unlike before where they did the coding has been changed which knows now if the box is a clone and will not let it flash and there is no real difference so it is hard to tell the only thing is the reason they flashed before was the chip had been replaced this time the coding has been targeting another part of the box ( not really sure what it is but that is your answer to non flashing boxes if everything else is correct)

    Thanks for the info Fergus.

The strage thing for me is that I flashed many boxes and all were fine and even this morning I flashed The Box and it went fine and I got in all the channles but then when I went to put a channel dump on the progress just remained at 0%.

I then tried to flash the box super tonight and I'm getting flash update failed.

I then dug out the wife's 'old' pc lol and it flashed no problem.

I'm thinking is the serial connector in my pc bunched.

I don't have time to reformat my pc over the xmas so I won't know for sure. I was thinking I might buy a pci serial card and see if it works.

The flash update failed has me stumpted.

PLEASE BE AWARE ALSO YOU CANNOT USE CHANNEL DUMPS ON THE NEW FIRMWARE ON THE BOXES THEY HAVE ALL TO BE RESCANNED AS THE FIRMWARE IS ALSO DIFFERENT FROM PREVIOUS RELEASES

Again thanks for the info Fergus.

But I take after flashing The Box (starview 2) and rescanning via cable/scart and finding all your channels you can then re-hook up your box to your pc and use a channel dump.
I hope you can as I've done many Starview 2's and put the channel dump back on, all seem to be working fine so far :)

If it's the God channel that finally does it, he'll probably become a born again Christian. "It's a miracle!" ;)

Does the key data only come in certain channels? It's interesting this, but you're right...Sly 1 and Sly Sports 1 does it for me real quick.

Bit of advice if you do want a PCI serial card - don't get tempted by the more expensive PCI serial cards that run at fancy high Baud rates than what is needed for this job (115200). When I was looking for one, someone on this very forum told me to get the very cheapest one on eBay (a cheap dual port PCI serial card sold by a couple of the big eBay merchants). Its very top baud rate is 115200...which is what the ROM loader wants to work at. Well I bought one...it cost me £10 inc P&P from eBay. It installed like a dream, and the tiny driver CD installed beautifully on XP (I think it's also Vista capable IIRC). All I had to do was change the COM port numbers that defaulted to COM6 and COM7, to COM1 and COM2. I also changed the Baud rate to the top 115200 (it defaults to 9600 when installed), and now it's flashed a fair few boxes like a charm. I've seen the same card recommended several times on similar forums. And at least if your problem turns out to be something different, you've only spent a tenner.

Search 'PCI serial RS232 card' on eBay....it's the top hit....two sellers to choose from, one with slightly better FB that I myself used.

It will update on any in the UK, Sly Sports does tend to be a bit quicker, but onfortunately it is not always the case in Ireland, it seems from majority of reports that Sly 2, is better, others say otherwise.
