e45, how did you hear about this V1.12 release?

Do starview have an official site or place where they issue their releases?

There has been no V1.11 released no? Skipped from V1.10 to V1.12

i wouldn`t worry too much if you only bought it recent and its left on standby cos its killing mostly clones but it has killed a few genuine boxes from an earlier batch but still haven`t got confirmation if all boxes with 1.10 are in danger

as i said dont be worrying unless its a clone and better off keeping the box on cos if the bootloader did go it would still work when left on but as soon as it is turned off it wont go back on and just watch out for a message that has appered on boxes before they died it will read "invalid box " so just keep an eye

I'm in Ireland and have two friends whose boxes have died due to this problem. One bought his box a couple of months ago but the other only bought his last week. He had it on pre-order from a very reputable site that is well known on these boards so it's definitely a genuine box from the latest batch to leave the factory.
    basically I have 2 questions:
    1) Does V1.12 fix boxes that have already been fried or does it have to be installed before the box dies as a preventative measure?
    2) Will all genuine boxes with the V.BETA be affected or is it just the odd one or two?
    CHeers.

If its a genuine box, return it to the supplier, if it hasnt died yet, put the new firmware on it now

    2) Will all genuine boxes with the V.BETA be affected or is it just the odd one or two?

its happening to some not all, but as above, put the new firmware on now before ya relize you have a problem one.

its up to you, if you have a genuine box and confirm it is one beofre hand, then load the new version, its your call, but the firmware is to fix an issue before it happens

Below is a letter from a supplier of Starview which they have been sending out to their customers SO WHAT DOES THIS TELL YOU

Hi Folks - Hope All Is Well.

It Has Recently Come To Our Attention That A Few Of Our Customers Have Recently Been Experiencing What Seems To Be Power Supply Related Issues With The Starview 4 USB Receiver. This Infact Is Actually A Software Related Issue & Is NOT Due To A Premature Hardware Failure Or A Premature Power Supply Failure.

As A Precaution, We Are Requesting That All UK & EIRE Owners Of The Starview 4 USB Receiver Upgrade To the Latest Software Version With Immediate Effect To Prevent Any Issues.

This Is In Your Own Interest & Must Be Adhered To Ensure All Warranties Stay Valid.

The Software Must Be Copied To A Good Quality USB Memory Stick & Can Be Installed By Pressing A Few Buttons On The Remote Control.

Please Do Use A Good Quality USB Memory Stick, To Prevent Any Firmware Corruption On The Receiver. This Will Prevent The 8882 Error From Being Displayed On Receivers Front Display Panel.

Firstly Download The V1.12 Software From This Link:
    V1.12 Software
Select The Blue Coloured "Download Now" Button

Then Copy The Downloaded File "TheboxSuperUSB_V1.12.BIN" To A Good Quality USB Memory Stick & Insert It Into The USB Port On The Back Of The Receiver.

Remember That The Mains Power Must Not Be Interrupted When The Firmware Is Being Installed By The Receiver.

The Best Way To Do This Is By Connecting The USB Memory Stick To The Back Of The Receiver, And Sit Back Down As If You Are Watching The TV. This May Sound Silly, But It Ensures That The Power Will Not Be Interrupted.

Once The USB Memory Stick Has Been Inserted Into The Back Of The Receiver & The Starview 4 USB Receiver Is Powered On, Follow The Steps Below.

    1. PRESS THE MENU BUTTON ON THE REMOTE CONTROL

    2. SCROLL DOWN TO "USB" & THEN PRESS "OK" ON THE REMOTE CONTROL

    3. SELECT & HIGHLIGHT THE FILE NAMED TheboxSuperUSB_V1.12.BIN & THEN PRESS "OK" ON THE REMOTE CONTROL

    4. YOU WILL SEE A "CONFIRM DATA RESTORE" BOX APPEAR ON THE SCREEN

    5. SELECT & HIGHLIGHT "YES" & THEN PRESS "OK" ON THE REMOTE CONTROL

    6. THE RECEIVER WILL NOW START DOWNLOADING THE FIRMWARE ON TO THE RECEIVER & WILL AUTOMATICALLY REBOOT ONCE COMPLETED.

    7. YOU MAY NEED TO RESCAN YOUR RECEIVERS IF THE CHANNELS HAVE BEEN DELETED.

Once These Steps Have Been Followed & Action ed, Your Starview 4 USB Receiver Will Have The Latest Software Installed.

    Thank You For Your Co-Operation.

I've just installed 1.12 on what I believe to be a clone (silver heatsink) and it seems to be working ok.

Uploaded v1.12 onto two sv4's. Both had v1.10 only installed last week as they were only bought brand new last week! Both are genuine boxes. Had no problems with v1.10 but uploaded v1.12 just to be on the safe side.

Everything is working fine on both!

Reason you got a blank screen is because you did not do a factory reset and rescan, i bet when you flashed the box back the to v1.10 the channels came back on straight away, ? or did you not turn the key code back on ??

if it works for everyone else, cant see why you are any different, lots of other people are on ch$$$$ as well and have had no problems.
