yea sat is safer because you dont need a sub u just point a dish into space, but if you really wanna do cable do it open sourse like dreambox because you can chop and change servers when u want if one goes down and they wont be looking 4 just one little dreambox server but theyll be defintly looking for a big server like sv6 and when they sieze it they will have all ur ip's as well and i bet most of us are on cable internet as well eh

but would this not be the same setup as above with the server? and the only difference would be where the signal for the box is coming from ??

Ah, ANOTHER MESSAGE EDITOR, reminds me of someone else all of a sudden.

I will pass up the opportunity to be educated on this subject also, thanks anyway!!

A closed box that is tied to a closed server is not the same as an open souce box wit the user able to chose ANY server

eg. if the starview server goes off wat ya gonna do. you cable guys should come and join us over in satellite. honestly much safer and way more choice, must be 60+ pay servers out there for sat and if u don't like one move your dreambox to anohter one.

Please be aware that upc are now sniffing on their bb service and are throttling some services to combat the c/s servers this will happen more and more so if you have upc BB and you are using the Sv6 box via lan change your BB provider or you will have problems

yes of course they are not after paying lots of money to upgrade to N3 and to let that go down the tubes so as i have said change BB providers and this will not happen

I do accept parts of the argument made by Fingal. But there is more to the story. First if you use a card sharing server that you are using your credit card for then this is not very sensible. I have made this point so I'll not go further. Now the dangers of sharing between friends. To do this you must have a broadband service. Your shares are always online to your router to get the necessary information. So it ain't difficult to figure the residential guy who has a broadband connection which is always being held up by incoming requests from shares. The normal internet subscriber is downloading for a while, the share is always up.

agree with you about credit card. Best use a safe way like a pay as you go credit card, just use your loaf a bit and be careful. but the other points dont agree with sorry. the amount of traffic on a small share among friends is really small and with dreambox it is 2 way traffic all the time (f and c lines)and it is a drop in the ocean for your normal traffic and is completely mixed up with millions of other packets not like starview6 wich is millions of packets all going to the same place (with the same ecms) at the same time AND its cable traveilling on there platform. they gonna be watching for this and it very easy to do

and with satellite you arent connected to a subsription with ur proper details/address/credit card . you just put a €20 dish on your wall and rock n roll. and who knows?

but i'm not trying to get anyone to do anything, I just want to tell members these thinks so they can decide

There is no payment made for c/s on the Sv6 box that is included in the cost of the box that is why the box only lasts for 1 year. After that you cannot purchase another sub you have to purchase a new box.

ie no paper trail to anyone

Agreed E45, there is no paper trail on the SV6. However there is a danger to being connected to a share at all times. It is not about levels of data tranmission as pointed out by Fingal. You would have to have a seriously good sniffing tool to disseminate share transmissions. However it is very easy to identify connections that stay up forever, this is just a time based search and is easy to do. The share always is online and connected, as compared to the simple download which drops the link after the download

Deep Packet Inspection is a very good sniffing tool and it is being used on the yewpc platform.

plus there is a paper trail. everyone that buys a sv6 in ireland is not buying it for freeview, and they now it and you need a basic subscrition. so if any seller gets raided they know where these boxes were sold to.

For a SV6 you need the box, a connection (and most of you will be using your yewpc modem) and a basic subscription.

A dish is much more anonymous and you can have any isp.

Anyway, chose whatever you want so long as u know that cable sv6 is risky.

Fingal, that point I do not argue in any way. I have said as much many times before. My point is that sat sharing is not risk free either
