Apologies for exhausting this - so I assume then that the firmware needed to flash the box is not freely available & it is this firmware that expires after 12 months??? Correct?

mickhab this link does not work must have been removed http://www.4shared.com/dir/6791846/54781b9d/sharing.html - All Cable and Sat firmware
yes that will work if they have them in stock but as that guy is looking to use a mobile bb stick like meteor or 02 mobile that will not work the one above that you have put up you need a wirless modem for that to work
Got cut off when I was posting this, I think this is the only DONGLE that would work with a starview 6!! but you would need to have a wireless router to connect to in the house!!
not true, ive got mine working away on a 3g dongle running off an old laptop, i just opened network sharing and ran an ethernet direct to the box... happy days.
answer is still no !!! he is using an ethernet cable so was i right ?? not dongle to box which was the question to hand !!
Well no, the question was would a MOBILE BB DONGLE be able to keep a SV6 updated ? and the answer is yes, if you connect it to something else ( eg a laptop and an ethernet cable).
This also works. Edimax 3G-6200N nLite Wireless 3G Broadband Router. Plug in your USB Modem into the above box and run Ethernet cable from it to your Starview. More info here http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi?view_product=1&id=25634 No hardware to install.
Very clever ok. What I was thinking was using down the road using one of those and keeping the SV6 updated by it. No IP evidence on my domestic bb provider (Khorus).
