Ok now you need to select either COM 1,2,3 or 4

From the previous steps , then do this

Right click on that port and select properties. Then select port settings, then select advanced. At the bottom of that tab will be a drop down box with the port selected (port 7 in your case). Use the drop down to select another port (eg 1, 2 or 3). If the port you want to use is already allocated to something else, you can use the same procedure to reassign that port after you have finished.
Save the selections in the usual way. The USB converter will be permanently assigned to the port you selected.

Is my unit bricked or can i flash it back to factory settings and start again?

    Cheers,

if you had a starview, you should have put on Cryptstar-V1.4core400.

the other one is for the BOX-not sure if it works on Starview.

Try it and see what happens

I know its a null modem cable i flashed my clone with it last week using a desktop. I'm not sure about the adaptor. I got it with the cable in maplins. It says its for any RS-232 devices.

Some USB to serial converters only allow one way communication. Not sure if two way communication is required when flashing but this may be something to look at.

    Hi guys,
I'm in Ireland and was talking to two NTL contractors the other day and they reckon that NTL (UPC) are going to start replacing their own digital boxes later this month in order to combat our Starview and Eurovox boxes. Has anyone heard anything similar ????

first of all you need a null modem cable and a usb adaptor if its a laptop then find out if you have a clone or a genuine box...you will find all the info you need on this link and if you get stuck just ask cos someone is always here to help.

if you have your cable then you're halfway there!!just check which box you have....clone or genuine so that you get the right firmware...25 vents for genuine and 18 for clone is one of the clues.
i dont know about your two missing channels but here is a list of channel freq..you could try putting the two of them in manually
