Yep a Null Modem Cable is the only cable that will work as it has a crossover config. A standard RS232 serial lead will not work.
so if ive got a nine pin port in back off pc do i still need usb addapter?and how and were do i download software?
Update Guide OK all the firmware/software you need to upgrade the Starview is in the link at the end of my post, marked Eamos FTA Library. 1. Download the Starview PDF Guide, found in Starview Documentation Folder. This will show you how to flash your Starview. 2. Download GTromloader Version 4, found in Starview Software Folder. 3. Download Cryptstar257, (only for clone boxes), found in Starview Firmware folder. You will need a null modem cable DB9F to DB9F. Null modem info http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=L71BT&DOY=2m6 If your pc does not have a serial port you will need a USB to serial port adapter to use in conjunction with the null modem cable. USB Adapter info http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx...uName=USB to Serial 9-Pin Male Adaptor class= These two cable links are only for reference as they can be purchased alot cheaper on fleabay. Updating Firmware Connect your box and PC with a Null modem cable and switch on the cable box and put it on STANDBY. (The Starview does not need to be connected to TV to update it with GTROM) Open GTROM Loader software make sure that you set the correct COM PORT that matches the one that is being used Make sure App file only is selected, then click Bin File & browse to the firmware where you downloaded it to on your PC. Run the GTROM loader by pressing Download and you will see the % progress increase then Download completed message on your PC. Wait until you see the DOWNLOAD COMPLETE pop up on your PC before removing the NULL MODEM CABLE. The Starvi*w will then reboot.
Rev I put the guide there for that purpose.........to guide you. Sorry but I have to leave for a bit.

Hi i'm trying to update my starview clone with GTromloader and CryptStar-v1.4-Core257.bin but when i hit download its stays on 0% and doesn't move. i have the right null modem cable the system setting on my starviw are api:2.57e_E boot ver:7.0 don't know if thats any help. i changed the port to com1 and it came up with flash upgrade failed. any one can help here????
Redfins you have been asking that question on other threads, this is known as multiposting and is frowned upon, stick to the one thread and someone will give you a hand, however I see Karl and Celtic already advised you, you must be doing something wrong, cause if these guys cant sort it then very few will!!!
right here it goes i hook my laptop up to my starview clone opened GTromloader uploaded CryptStar-v1.4-Core257.bin hit the download button and it just stays on 0% if you can help that would be great would it be anything to do with my laptop
yes to open GTRomloader.but not to open CryptStar-v1.4-Core257.bin i just uploaded that on to GTromloader and click on download. i change my port on GTRomloader serial port to COM1 i was using COM3 when i clicked on download after a couple of seconds it came up with "flash upgrade failed"
Ok here,s an idiot proof way of updating.... (Compliments of Celtic71) Sometimes it takes a few times to do it, if it doesn,t work the first time DELETE the downloads and re download (I know its a pain but it works) UPDATING FIRMW@RE Connect your box and PC with a Null modem cable and switch on the cable box and put it on STANDBY. (The Starvi*w does not need to be connected to TV to update it with GTROM) Open GTROM Loader software make sure that you set the correct COM PORT that matches the one that is being used Make sure App file only is selected, then click Bin File & browse to the firmware where you downloaded it to on your PC. Run the GTROM loader by pressing Download and you will see the % progress increase then Download completed message on your PC. Wait until you see the DOWNLOAD COMPLETE pop up on your PC before removing the NULL MODEM CABLE. The Starvi*w will then reboot Disconnect from PC and connect back up to the TV
i went through that and still the same problem when i hit download it goes to downloading and hangs on 0% and does not move
Morning, Quick question, I updated my box, my mam's box and a friends box and they're all working perfectly updating when the key change. But I updated another genuine st*rview 1 box yesterday, exactly same way I'd done the others and it said download complete on the PC. I set default key and it updated itself BUT only a few channels seem to be working on it, like BBC1, S*y Sports 1 etc, the rest are coming up as scrambled or bad channel. Does anyone know why this is? The EMU is on so I really can't find a reason why it won;t work especially since S*k Sports is one of the channels that does work on it. Any help would be appreciated. M
