sid999, I have read somewhere that the cap should be fitted with the white line in the same direction - never actually fitted one, but pretty sure that your answer is yes, do no harm to swap it around anyway. To edit your posts you need to click on the little notepad at the right hand side top of your own post, best of luck.
cheers malci i will swap it around tomorrow when i get in from work i have a spare cap so i might use the new one............just checked on google they have go a certain way
have noticed like a hard yellow/brown hard goo at the bottom of two capacitors on the circuit board ...could this be the problem...is this where they have leaked ....i will try and get a picture up if ican the two caps are the big one c5 and also c12 ...i think i soldered the c11 cap on right as i have noticed all the - marks on the caps are located witha marh on the pcb ...
does any one know where i can get the big capaciter called c5 ...it is a 400v 68 uf cap it looks like it has leaked and i want to change it before i throw in the towel with this box thanx
Sounds like the PSU is in a bit of a state. Bring it to your local TV repair shop they will have what you are looking for. If the cost of repair is too much look for a replacement PSU on fleabay.
what is the psu ... the board looks ok cleaned the leakage of the top of the board no damage as far as i can see
Apologies heading off for a bit PSU = Power Supply Unit. As said a TV repair shop will have all you need and a spare PSU for a Starview may be found on fleabay, (although they are hard to come by).
scouser would you replace the big capaciter before looking at the psu...only reason being there is power going to the box...is there any checks i can do on the psu ...thanks
how do i check this .....with a circuit tester ...on what settings should i have it thanks in advance
A multimeter, but honestly you would be better bringing it to your local TV repair shop. As always care should be taken when working with a live PSU.
checked the outputs of the psu and they are all slightly lower than what the board states they should be .is this a fault or is this normal readings are here 7----6.7 23---21 12---11.93 3.3---3.25

Sid ... did you not bin it yet??? Seriously as Sc0user said days ago its a job for your local TV repair shop!!
I love a persistent person, your volt drop was indicative of a C11 fault. You replaced the cap at the wrong polarity. Another box that could have been fixed is now in the bin.
