    hello,
    I am a complete idiot at this stuff but hopefully someone out there can help.I have a starview box for a while which worked fine until recently. Now I have hardly any channels. Mostly I just get "bad or scrambled channel" message. I tried going back to instillation and auto scan and tried again but no luck. Help!
    Thanks

    hi there i have had my starview for about 14 months now, i think its a clone, and thanks to this great forum i have had relatively few problems, in fact i can do most stuff on it.
    However today it keeps on cutting out. The picture freezes, and then it reboots itself and then hangs again. If you power off and back on it comes back then does the same again 5 mins later. What is weirder is that i have another Starview upstairs and a eurovox max, as well as my original Telepest box, and they are all working fine.
    Any ideas or is it on its way to the free cable box graveyard.

    click the link under my post it does work

    Please consider updating to the auto roll firmware

    Also

    You will need a null modem cable DB9F to DB9F.

    Null Modem Cable

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=L71BT&DOY=2m6

    If your pc does not have a serial port you will need a USB to serial port adapter to use in conjunction with the null modem cable.

    USB Adapter

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Modu...erial Adaptor

    These two cable links are only for reference as they can be purchased alot cheaper on fleabay.

    All firmware/loader can be found in the link at the end of my post marked Eko

    You will need the GTromloader, (Starvi*w Software Uploader), found in the Starvi*w software folder of the link.

    You will need version 2.57_FIXED firmware for CLONES found in "Starvi*w" firmware folder.

    OR V.400 FOR A GENUINE BOX

    18 VENTS CLONE ============ V2.57e_E FIXED

    25 VENTS GENUINE BOX ====V4.00e_E

    ok so i have checked out the pics and i have the first box (SCART to right looking from the back) but with the latest remote. It also has 18 vents in a row. I have always thought it was a clone so not sure now. I have a new c now so my null modem cable wont fit. I think i have 257 version firmware but cant be sure.

    ok you need to have V2.57e_E_FIXED ok and that will autoroll the codes it does not matter if the box is genuine or not you just cannot put the V4.00 on a clone ok just remember that

    ok fergus, ihave found my file and i do have the 257e fixed firmware, as i said though my new pc does not have a serial port for the null modem. Do you think it is just reinstall the firmware ? Also i know that since i installed the 257e fixed last october,i have still had to do a manual code change once.

    also just noticed that when it boots itself back up, now and again it shows an E on the display and sticks. When you switch it off and back on again it comes back properly.
