I have posted this at the end of another thread without any answers. Basically i ran into someone who was able to modify clone starview boxes for them to behave like originals and accept geniune firmware (2.6, 3 and 4). I have been searching endlessly trying to find any information on it as i have now had my box jtagged twice because of loading a dodgy "clone safe" v3 firmware on it.

I have kept an eye on ebay and noticed jtagging services crop up more and more but there is this one item which is supposed to convert your clone into a geniune box

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200124460115

has anyone used anything like this? does it work?

257 doesnt have certain enhancements like time, epg fix etc. 4 is supposed to be better. plus i dont want the hassle of finding or waiting for fixed firmware when autoroll stops working.

had to wait a month for the fixed 257 and i was still in two minds whether it would kill my box. and its just a headache when the box dies. if i can get it converted to an original id rather do that to avoid future headaches.

i've done it. it works. its the eeprom chip that is changed, Use a hot air gun to release and stick back the chips from the solder.

Even if this works there are many other ways the firmware can detect if its a clone.
