I got a serial cable with the box, I assume that there is some place I can get this 2.7 rev? do download it or is there someone here in the experts corner that might send it to me with very clear info on process,I'm not great with this sort of thing.

Hi all new to this game..... bought a box about 3 months ago, been reading the pages over the last few days and noticed people are wary of updating 1st gen/clone??? boxes, does anyone know when the 1st gen was released as when i opened my box the mainboard has a code on and has a 2005 man date on the top right hand side (if looking from the back), updated firmware to 3.00 today will let you know if any problems....

Im a newbie, and a noob if you want to call me that

Ive had starview boxes for around 5 months now, the first 3 boxes i bought were clones and the further 5 ive bought are originals, i didnt know at the time they were clones but ohwell thats life.

recentley i upgraded 1 of the boxes to 2.60 firmware and it uploaded fine and i went into the EPG but then it locked up and i had to power off and power back on but uhho, nothing happened! life init, the one i kept for myself from the start happens to be a clone!

Anyhow, I can now do the repair of the clone box and any of the other 2 i have at familys homes incase they also go down. I found the long winded info book to do it so im fine about the clones for now

However im a bit dubius to load any more software onto and of my familys boxes, they will sorta go bad if i kill there box and lose tv for more than 20 mins, but i dont like the code updating everytime it goes off, its like being a worker then working for virgin the rest of the night!

Version 3.00 i see auto updates, if the box freezes every now and agin, im fine with that as long as its just a case of them turning it back on at the socket, is this just the case?

on a second note, back to the clones, ive read a few snippets around saying that the 2.60 software is being "doctor'd" so that it works on the clone boxes without turning them off, is this real or just fake, i'd like no to have to start taking the other 2 boxes to bits to do a repair everytime i flash them, and if this is true, is version 3.00 being "doctor'd" to work on clones?

Now i dont see the point over arguing about clone boxes and original boxes, i just see it that we should know that its a clone, and work with it to make it happen instead of trying to make people buy more boxes, its a bit of a waste realy seen as the box did originally work as described

So, can anyone help here? i assume you can you ohh soo nice people

Yes the 260/261 was re modified by a certain person selling a different one called "TheBox" it was done to kill the starview ones and he could charge a higher price for the other ones

now v3 is available here on this site it has not been modified to kill but you still take a chance with it yes does freeze a little but it will clear itself after 10 sec or so it does update its self but everybody is trying but none have died so far well we have not heard of any

When trying to connect my null cable to update i get the message acess to port denied or something similar.

Any ideas as to how i might fix this

Fake Starview Box!

I just wanted to post 2 pictures or links to them anyway

I have just taken a picture of the inside of a clone box and a picture of the rear end of the unit

I know for definate this is a clone so if you look at your unit and it appears to be the same, then maybe you'll now know!

keys for CW plz the keys at page star view expert 98,99,101 do not work any update for 2day

 

Now take a picture of a non cloned box on the inside, that would really help.

Serial Port problem?
Do you have a firewall running? Shut it down first.

Do you have any external items (Ipaqs etc.)that use the port, might be them that is locking the port up.

Try shutting down all programs that might be using the ports, modem programs etc..

Do you have the port turned on in the BIOS?

If you can wait until tomorrow when i go out to visit a relative to yet again play with her box (sounds a bit dodgey i know but ) I may be reprograming it so i'll take a couple of pictures while im there, be around this time tomorrow when i upload them ok?

 

Hi all me again, update on v3.00 for those who are having problems with epg, set your time to auto, and turn summertime "on", this should then take info from feed, please note some channels may be slow in updating epg where as other's seem to be instant, hope this helps... will post any other snippits of info (be it useless to the God's and other gifted members)but maybe more useful for newbie's like myself..
