I need to ask a question.

I have bought a starview and it works fine, i'm on telewest broadband (virgin now) and use the wall socket for the broadband to recieve the television signal. However i'm wondering if i disconnect my broadband service, that the starview box won't get signal. This is because of the extortionate prices being charged for broadband.

    Cheers

yer i was plannin on using the laptop since the PC with a serial port is in the loft, with no tv near it. so i'd have to bring a tv and the box all to the loft and connect it there, lol (too much work)

but yer, the real question is, has anyone had any success yet?

They are not lost they are removed. For some reason they still appear in the EPG. Sky 9 & 10 are ghosts in the machine.

I have had Dboxes in the past but one of them is messing about so much its getting kicked out of the house. Do you know how the Starview compares with the Dbox? Also where is the cheapest place to get a genuine Starview box? I hope you can be of some help to me. Thanks Jon

    HI JON
DBOX 2 IS A BRILLIANT UNIT , I STILL USE ONE MYSELF
if its a dbox 1 then bin there are crap
if its a DBOX2 THEN ITS A BETTER EPG THAN THE STARVIEW and thats about it really

the starview is a lot easier to update and flash than a dbox2
and a better looking unit and loads of suport just like the dbox2
try that popular auction site (flea bay or something ) and pay around 70 / 80 quid some with free postage

both the starview and dbox 2 are good

i say go for the starview it has the edge for me but only just

sounds like youve just been unlucky with your dbox2

    yep,
had the same problem,..it,s your rs232 cable,..there are 2 sorts,
    1 for data
    1for patching
looks like you,v got the data one, maplins do the other
or ebay, took me endless hours of trying to download software
    to realise this
