    Hi Guys & Gals
I have been serching for a good forum and this one looks good!like so many others I have bought a star view receiver, I've installed got all the channels, have done the parental pressed ok, pressed info, put in 2004 and all it seems to do is try to change the password.

puzzling one that jezzer,i take it you have the serial port setting on the gtrom downloader set at com 1 and the baud rate at 115200,then you have selected the bin file for the firmware and made sure the app only box is checked? if so, not sure what else to suggest i have used the gtrom downloader and the v 260 tonight off here and flashed my box no probs,i hope you manage to sort it.

Hi all, just got a starview box today. Using it in Dublin with NTL, works ok, flash version 259. EPG is fairly crap, are 257 or 260 more reliable? Also signal drops often, freezing, image getting distorted etc. I reckon that's because my signal coming in is quite poor. Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

freebee - try menu and 1570 instead of the info and 2004,then scroll down to the key emu option and turn it on,then exit back to your channels.

jes i wasn't expecting an answer that quick !!! I've been looking back at some earlier pages, is it press menu then info then 2004 or press menu then select parental then ok then 2004, i noticed earlier that someone wrote that its only menu then info 2004, maybe this is where I'm wrong....

I had the same problem last night when I recieved my new box. Every time i pressed 'menu' 'parental control' 'info' (2004 would not do anything and 1668 would just try to change the PIN). I also tried the menu and 1570 which also didn't do anything.
I noticed that the box was using version 258 so i flashed it with 260 and now i can access the hidden menu via parental control with no problem.

    Jeezer001,

I had the same problem that you had when flashing my Starview. Found the following instructions on another site and it worked a treat:

1 If your Starview wants a CODE the default code is 0000. If that doesn't work the master code is 1668 .

2 Download the latest working firmware & the GTROM programme.

3 In menu check your system information. If it shows the November 2006 firmware you may need to flash with a later one as this one may not work correctly & not let you access the CAS SYSTEM menu to enable EMU.

4 If you are in Eire you may have to use an older firmware maybe the 257 or 255 or cryptstar fix for your box for it to auto update

5 Connect your box and PC with a Null modem cable and switch on your PC then cable box. (The Starview does not need to be connected to TV to update it with GTROM)

6 Make sure you know which com port on your PC the null modem cable is using and make sure the baud rate is set to 115200 in device manager in system settings in control panel. If your PC/Laptob doesn't have a SERIAL PORT then you will need to buy a USB to SERIAL adapter and plug your NULL MODEM cable to that then to the Starview. You must also install the drivers that came with the USB adapter as they are not plug & play.

7 In GTROM software make sure that you set the correct COM PORT that matches the one that is being used in device manager.

8 Make sure App file only is selected, then click Bin File & browse to the firmware where you downloaded it to on your PC.

9 You will then see "GCR 3510" in the STB model box. DO NOT TYPE ANYTHING IN HERE.

10 Run the GTROM loader by pressing Download and you will see the % progress increase then Download completed message on your PC. Wait until you see the DOWNLOAD COMPLETE pop up on your PC before removing the NULL MODEM CABLE. The Starview will then reboot.

11 If you have a FLASH FAILED message then switch it off then on at the back and make sure its on standby. Then Flash again as stated above.

If for some reason it won't go into standby and you see a constant moving green dot wait & see if the Starview goes to standby and try again. Sometimes when this happens you need to flash an older image and try the new one again, also re-download the file in case it was corrupted.
If this fails you could try this, switch the Starview OFF at the back, run GTROM and press DOWNLOAD, once it has started switch on the Starview (may take several attempts) and the GTROM will start to display the download progress (Starview display will not show this though) and will display a message when completed. This in effect returns the Starview to the state it was in from the factory so remember to switch on the EMU again.

12 After flashing connect the Starview to your TV & cable, now you will have to do is a full auto channel scan in the installation section of the menu.

13 Once completed the Starview will tell you how many channels found, exit on the remote and enter the Parental control section of the menu. Press "i " (info) then "2004" and you will enter the CAS system menu. Scroll down to Key EMU and switch it on by toggling the volume arrows on the remote. Then move up to Nagravision and press OK select your area provider then press OK. Exit and scroll down to Default key and hit OK. It will flash "Please wait for saving" Exit all way back to main menu.
14 If you cannot get into the hidden menu using i 2004 then from the Main Menu press 1570.

15 Exit back out of the menu and check all your channels are working. You may have to wait a short time when you first tune to a $ channel as the box auto updates before the picture appears. All that then remains is for you to re order your channels if you wish in Channel edit in the menus.

16 DO NOT TYPE ANYTHING IN THE SPACE FOR BIN FILE ON GTROM LOADER
