they cant detect what youve got & how many devices youve got, unless your using boxes with talkback. starviews & dboxes dont have talkback, therefore invisible

it,s down to the processor speeds,...copy boxes run at 65mhz,..
original boxes run at 80mhz,..the 2006 firmware requires a 80mhz processor,..the cloned boxes cannot handle this,..hence the problems of the boxes dieing

stay with 257e there is no point in changing firmware yet
257 is still the best and most stable ,
my advice is if it works great on 257 why change it...

my new starview box has version 2.58e and won't allow me to access the secret menu to get to emu. Despite entering all the codes mentioned on the forum. is there any other way of unscrambling sport and movies apart from changing to the 257 i've heard about?

Yes the 2.58 bin file of Nov 2006 had the "secret menu" missing. This is how the Starviews leave the factory so it is a Free to Air receiver only. Just flash with 2.57 as it says above.

Ok connect the null modem cable to your starview and your com port on your PC. Have the starview on standby. Run the GTRom 4.00 on the disc. Make sure app file only is selected and click on BIN FILE. Select the bin file from the disc (if 2.57 is on it or download it)and when selected click download. Progress will show on the GTRom screen and the starview display. When completed, the starview will reboot, disconnect lead and check the 2.57 version is on. When it is you type 1570 on main meny and the CAS menu should be there.

sorry to be so thick but is a null cable the same as my rs232 cable becuase i don't appear to have the correct port on my laptop for it to fit into. the rs232 cable is female and my port is also female.
I'm worried about downloading it and was wondering if anyone sells a disc with 257 on it so i can just do it from the disc

the port should be male on the laptop. are you sure your not mistaking it for the vga port? the serial has 2 rows pins - vga has 3. if its a modern laptop then it probably doesnt have serial, you will have to buy a usb adaptor. Also, downloading the file should be safe, as long as you get the 257, not 260

    Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy 10+ Starview boxes for myself, family and friends, can anyone recommend a good supplier that would give a discount for a bulk order? How much should I be paying for 10 boxes?

    Thanks

Look on ebay, you should be able to get 10 for around £450 to £500 at the moment, maybe less, have a look at wizard on ebay because you can make offers on the buy now and got my last one for £47.50.
