version 258 is well known for not letting people into the secret menu, get yourself a cable and download one of the other firmwares its much easier

Just wondering if anybody on here has had the same problem with the s***view box as I have - on certain programmes and films there is a 'commentary' i.e a voice is describing what is happening in the non-speaking parts. Would be grateful if anyone could tell me how to knock it off or if you can.

First you need to connect to cable then put the scart in tv next turn on go to installation do that next select english next setup
turn on rgb then do a scan of channels wait till it goes right to end even when it says failed it will find them just wait when this is finished do the rest of this should work let us all know

    FOR N*L IRELAND ONLY !!
Here’s what you need to do
    ,

    • Press ‘MENU’ button on remote

    • Click on ‘PARENTAL CONTROL’

    • Press ‘INFO’ button on remote

    • Where it says ‘type in old pin’ put in 2004

    • Then click on ‘ NAGRAVISION’

    • ‘Key number’ should be 00

    • Go down to KEY DATA

    • Change second digit (1) to (B) - THIS IS DONE BY HIGHLIGHTING THE ‘1’ AND PRESSING AUDIO BUTTON ON THE REMOTE – it should change to ‘B’ )

    • IT WAS 31 SHOULD NOW BE 3B

    • Numbers should now be: 3b d5 b1 4a 53 e0 71 6c

    • THEN PRESS OK ON REMOTE!! - You should see the ok/store at bottom of screen flicker and ‘store’ go to white !

    • Go back up to ‘key number’ and change it to ‘01’ by pressing the > arrow on remote)

    • Goto ‘key data’ again

    • Now change the 2nd digit (1) to (B) same as before

    • Numbers should now be : cb c9 bb a1 1f 39 ff 86

    • THEN PRESS OK ON REMOTE!!

Now exit out of everything until your back watching T.V and it should be back up and running.

Hi mate... If Fergus's tip doesen't work it might be a good idea to get yourself a null modem cable (you'll get one on e'bay or directly from a Maplins store if there's one handy) and flash your box with the 257 software as I have been hearing that the 258 sometimes poses people with problems when they try to access the secret menu on the starview. If you're confident your box is a genuine one then flash it with the more updated 3.00 but the 257 seems to be the safer option... Hope Fergus tip works first though and save you the hassle...

    fergus thanks a bunch,
update the keys and now working ok for now even with the 258 firmware. Just a quick question tho, how do you watch movi channels if it asks for a pin?

is there any way or are the movie channels now unwatchable?

If you do a search of your channels you will find extra ones there with no names or with hid after the name click on them and if they are the channels you are looking for just rename them sort your channels in the channel edit area and put them in alphabetical order might be easier for you to find

Also there is nothing wrong with 258 you should be able to do whatever you need even with this file

Just out of curiosity does anybody know what channels are which are usually just showing BBC repeats?
Theres about 4 of them, they were named TV **.
There not always viewable but when they are usually showing Eastenders and sometimes Life On Mars etc.
I searched through every BBC channel listing and nothing matches it.

Not important just thought i'd ask

Ok quick question, I have what appears to be agenuine starview (larger box) and my uncle has what could be a clone. If I flash 3.00 on my genuine box and this auto updates, will I just be able to read the codes from my box and enter them on to his????

or doesn't it work like that???

So did you just flash 257 straight after. i.e not unplugging the cable, and not switching on as normal before second flash.

That will work fine but it is only a short term fix until the codes are rolled again. Then the same thing will have to be done which is ok if the roll them once every few months but there is talk of daily code changes in which case its not very practical for manual changes you need the newest firmware that will autoupdate but clones cannot run it apparently (the jury is still out on that) so their useless at that point.

That was my first thought but like i say, i've searched all the BBC listings and doesnt appear to be any of them. Also i've got them 3 correctly named.
    Weird

I just flashed 3.00 onto a genuine box, lost a few channels, turned it off and back on, flashed it again with 2.57, got some of the missing channels back, now in the process of flashing 2.55. I'm on N*L in Dublin, I'll post the results ASAP, I'm curious to see if this will fix the key roll problem, 3.00 still needs some tweaking, freezing etc........Still missing some channels, now loading a channel list, lets see if that cures it.
