    No, that's a connector for an external monitor.

    Most newer laptops don't have a built in serial port so you would need to get a USB to serial converter cable & use it along with the RS323 NULL Modem cable to communicate with the box.

    eamo32 your a star man!!

    Sorted it out took 2/3 attempts. Box is up and running now.

    One last question my mate has a starview 2 and I was thinking of getting a starview 3, do they use the same firmware?

    Cheers.

    Haven't really spent much time looking at this stuff lately, so I can't say for sure, but the answer is probably that they don't use the same version of firmware. Of course, I stand to be corrected on this.

    If you're absolutely 100% certain you have a genuine SV, the file you need is this one;
    CryptStar-v1.4-GenuineOnly.zip from the Starview / Firmware folder

    You need to go to the Starview / Software folder, and download this file;
    GTRom v4.00.rar

    You will also need a program such as winrar ( search on google ) to uncompact the file. It works with .rar, .zip, and a lot of other compressed file types.

    You can use that uploader for the Box. What you should do is go to the very bottom directory called TheBox. In there, are 3 more directories;
    Firmware, Software and Channel Dumps. You should make sure you get your firmware from there, and there is a copy of the GTRom loader that is not compressed.

    The CryptStar firmware isn't in that folder though. Also I downloaded the cryptstar firmware but when I pressed downoad on the GTRom it says that the specified file cannot be found. Does anyone have any ideas with what I am doing wrong?

    OK, so you need to unzip the CryptStar file, which will give you a .bin file. This what you need to load into gtrom loader, before you press the download button.
    Hope that helps.
    If you go to the Starview / Documentation directory, there is a video, not very clear, that shows what to do. There are also various guides in there that give step by step instructions.

    The CryptStar firmware is not in that directory, because it is not for The Box, it is only for the genuine Starview, so, it's in the Starview / Firmware directory.
    You need to unzip the CryptStar file, which will give you a .bin file. Go to the Starview / Documentation directory, download one of the guides, this will give you instructions on what to do. Basically, after you've unzipped the CryptStar, start gtrom, select application only, or something like that, choose your .bin file from above, then press the download button. Of course, make sure you are connected to the Starview before you press download, 'cos what you are actually doing is downloading the .bin file from your pc to the starview, not downloading a file of the interweb thingy.

    You need to go to the link for Eamo's FTA Library, see the end of my post. All directories, software, firmware, documentation are there. Are you using a 'Null Modem' to connect to your box? You won't see it come up on your pc as a connected device.
