I am unable to download the firmware onto the (Starview 3) 'The Box Super' box that I have just bought.

I thought maybe the grey RS232 cable was not 'null modem' and so went to maplins and bought one (17 euro! - scammers) but same results.

    - If I set to standby and hit download, GTROM just sits at 0%
    - If I Power off the box, hit download on the laptop and power on the box again, I get nothing for about a minute and then I get update failed.
    - If I power on first and then hit download as soon as it says 'on' on the box, it says 0% for about a minute and then update failed.

The COM port on the laptop seems fine and there is some form of comms going on 'cos when I try to update when TV is running, the screen goes black... there's a reaction on the box whenever I try to do something (background disappears, tv goes black or the box reboots when I disconnect)but I'm not able to update the box.

At least nothing is broken - each time I fail, the box resets itself and works fine.

Should I be messing with the serial port settings on the laptop?

    Bits per second (baud) 9600
    Data bits eight
    Parity none
    Stop bits one
    flow control none

The current version of the software on it is date Jan 2008.

Can anyone help me please, I put on the latest update for my starview box and now it wont even turn on. The update was thebox_H20071015_454eE_ap, I have a genuine box.

Is my unit bricked or can i flash it back to factory settings and start again?

    Cheers,
    Leigh

what unit do u have as all 3 have different firmware
starview 1 has latest firmware of v4.000
starview 2 known as the box
starview 3 super is the latest box out now
check ur label on unit for identification
putting wrong firmware on unit can wreck it!

    Hi

Just updated to the latest version on a genuine starview box 25 vents x 7.

when it came back on i could not view any channels but i could flick through them with no picture and sound just a black screen.

I then did a factory reset and a full channel scan .

i got some channels and they are viewable but it did not pick up lots of channels when it did the auto scan

    i have most movies
    no bbc1 , 2 channel 4 or 5

    Any ideas please???

    Thanks in advance.

Very strange. I take it you are on about a starv**w 1 box. To have the movie channels and not the free ones..............

Make sure you have turned EMU back on!

Sorry for butting in pipp , I seen this happen on numerous occassions as its not picking up all transponders , the best thing to do is this method

    Menu > Factory Setting
    PIN 0000
    OK to delete

Turn box off at the back for a minute and turn back on
    English > Installation
    Choose Provider etc
    Automatic Scan
    Press OK
    Channels found
    Exit

    Press Menu then 1570
    Turn EMU key ON

    Exit , exit , exit

    Hi

Thought we had cracked this prob but after trying to sort out the Fav' s im finding channels missing like all the discovery channels and some kids channels.

Some Transponders are failing when i do a search.

Any ideas why please It was fine before i updated it to get the codes rolling again.

    Thanks again

    Hi

Finally Found out was going on after spending most of the day on it and all it was.

Was a loose connection from the box to the wall socket (coax cable)

now picking up all channels again and the auto search finds all channels

HI, when you use the term 'kill' when referring to fake starview boxes, what exactly does this mean ie no power, or no channels...#

mine currently has no power, and has recently been updated by someone, is there a way to fix this??

Kill means it erases the bootloader, you need to jtag it to bring it back to life.

You will need the GTromloader, (Starvi*w Software Uploader), found in the Starvi*w software folder of the link.

You will need version Cryptstar - V1.4 genuine only firmw@re for GENUINES found in "Starvi*w" firmw@re folder.

All firmware/loader can be found in the link at the end of my post marked EAMO'S LIBRARY.

    Updating Firmw@re

Connect your box and PC with a Null modem cable and switch on the cable box and put it on STANDBY.
(The Starvi*w does not need to be connected to TV to update it with GTROM)

Open GTROM Loader software make sure that you set the correct COM PORT
that matches the one that is being used

Make sure App file only is selected, then click Bin File & browse to the firmware where you downloaded it to on your PC.

Run the GTROM loader by pressing Download and you will see the % progress increase
then Download completed message on your PC.

Wait until you see the DOWNLOAD COMPLETE pop up on your PC before
    removing the NULL MODEM CABLE.

    The Starvi*w will then reboot

Disconnect from PC and connect back up to the TV

Without knowing your area and provider have you tried to delete it, then autoscan. It should appear at the end of your channel list fixed.
