Hi Lads. I have been a silent follower of these Starview forums for many months now, and have benefited greatly in the past from the Code Updates, for which I thank you.
Today I decided to be adventurous and try to update my Firmware per your detailed instructions. Unfortunately all goes well until I hit the download button, at which point I get the "updating screen with 0% showing then after a while amessage saying"Flash Update Failed".
    I am using a genuine machine with Crypstar v 1.4 core 400.
Any help you are able to offer will be greatly appreciated

Sounds like you are using the wrong cable, you need a DB9F to DB9F null modem cable.

Thanks for the quick response Noelyf. I am using a USB Serial Converter for "USB to RS-232 interface.
    Is this wrong?

Did you install the drivers with the CD that came with the USB Adapter and are you using the correct COM port ?

Yes, I have followed the instuctions on here to the letter. The only problem that I encountered was that the cable initially came up on COM5 which was not covered on the drop down list, so I went on the advanced button and changed the port to COM2 etc.
    Any other suggestions?

Are you sure you have the NULL MODEM CABLE as the rs232 cable will not work ?

Have you had your b0x on STAND-BY when updating ?

Is the RS232 Interface not the same as a null cable?
You can see that I am only a well meaning amateur

Is a Null Cable, and the "USB Serial Converter for USB to RS-232 interface" that I am hooking up with, 2 different things.
I bought the converter as my computer did not have a Serial Port.

you`ll need the null modem cable (looks exactly like the RS323)
plus the USB to serial port adapter

Heres a link to celtics guide.
