got an original staview box, updated software month or so, no problems.

last night box has gone funny, turn power on and off, just shows 0 on the front screen and tv shows just a blank grey screen. Any answers would be appreciated.

    thanks

Sorry to butt in but the b0x does NOT need to be jtagged

    Here is the solution

    Display 0

    Its a hardware fault.

1.Remove the cap (c21) electrolytic near the ribbon on the psu board.
2.Boot the box , it should boot to on and function correctly , the psu will hum ignore it , just let it boot to ON ,then turn it back off.
    3.Replace electrolytic cap (c11) 1000 mic @16v on the psu board , resolder (c21)
    thats it done.

You can get caps from Maplins

Hi Celt ;) I havent had a chance to revise the original post I supplied Martin with, I have asked him to change it slighty to 1000mic @ 16V. 10V was too low and have recommended changing the rating a while back. I have even used 25v to good affect ;)

Hi guys.... have got SV box (genuine) with 0 on front lcd screen..so gonna foillow this set of threads...but a question....when it says to remove c21....i assume you remove it carefully so as to re-use it...??
And when c21 is removed..i asuume the original c11 cap is still in place while i boot up...?
And then turn off again, until i see that it has booted up ...??
Then once it has booted up..and been turned off..is this the point at which i replace c11 with the new cap at c11..of similar values....(1000mic @16v)...??
And also now replace the origanal c21 back in place too....??
Would just like to make sure i have read this thread properly before doing this procedure...
    Thanks for reading this.... Billyie

Hi Celt71 ..Thanks for ya reply ....was wondering if there is any other info about this capacitor i need to buy ( 1000mic @16v)...As i live in Ireland..it isnt feasable to purchase from Maplins..post is to expensive...even on this little item.. but have an outlet in Ireland.,...but they have atleast 16 caps with 1000mic @16v...so was hoping for more info about the exact capacitor to fit here...???
Maybe there is some writing printed on the cap itself..any one have any idea ....??
Or am i safe once the cap is rated 1000mic @16v...even though there are about 16 of this type to choose from ..? And varying in price..
    Would appreciate ya help....Bilyie

Billy AFAIK , you can get these from either Maplins or Peats or even fleabay for about 50c .

Have a look in the SV at the (c11) for size and once you get the nearest size and its 1000uf mic/16v it should do the trick for you.

It should look something like this or this
    :)

With reference to the cap please use any with a voltge over 16volts the voltage does not effect the working wiyh the exception that it will work up to that voltage the only trouble is the higher the voltage the bigger they are you can use either new or used caps as long as you know they are ok not leaking or dome tops

    Hello folks

Since I find this site a godsend for helpful information, I thought I would share with you my good news story in case it helps others. After I installed the new software on my (clone) SV box, it just kept rebooting over and over. I looked up all your good advice, and noted the suggestion that perhaps the C11 capacitor needed replacing - I got some 16V ones at Maplin, and my brother helped me do the removal and replacement and soldering as per your guidance. Now the SV box is back to full working order ! I am delighted. Thanks a lot for sharing this information.

    Carmel

you wont get into the EMU until your box has been flashed, if its only a new box it came with FTA chamnnels only, all the info you need is here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/663923
