Thanks Gerrard, the unit that has the error is one I haven't used since the server issues of last year so i guess thats why if the database hasn't been ported. will keep waiting for the day when all is good ;-))
I wonder how many people are going to order new Starviews when the expiry date is up,I for one wont be ,so wonder how the stockpile of boxes is going to deminish,
12th June...LOADS of Starview 7 has gone on sale at ebay...but considering they are currently useless..they have been over priced...the going rate is over £80.
Hi gerrard08,just quick question about expiry date is it something thats set or just an error? I ordered 4 boxes in November all came within 1 week of each other and the expiry vary from June 15th,July 15th,august 15th.So with all the ups and downs we had about 3-4month of use, fair way off the 12month sv told us we could expect.Any info would be gratefully appreciated.
Kingfix..I am not 100% on this..but I dont think the expiry dates are done by errors. Its a new server now dealt by a new group, so these guys have no records of who bought which box when...so i reckon they just doing it by guesswork... i know alot of people in my area bought their SV6 & 7 in January & February times of this year...and most of their boxes expire 15th June 2011. so this latest firmware SMGO221 of 9th June..was only released to issue every box with an expiry date.
Hi gerrard08,so does that mean they go off on expiry date or will they try sell you some kind of sub or temp fix? They should be grateful that so many people stuck with them after all the hassle with sv boxes in general.I for 1 will drop sv like a hot spud if expiry date comes out to be doomsday for the sv6,mickah was right about sv folk having very poor customer support. If it's the end for the sv6 etc can you recommend me something new/more reliable on a similar et up.Thanks again for your info.
Expiry dates are there for a reason now, so im convinced the server will stop them by the dates. But I wouldnt say its end of starview just yet, as we are still awaiting for a response from themegakiddy on this..hopefully he will get back to us this week. Subs has been mentioned, but i havent a clue how they going to pave that thru, who would people pay to, etc etc? its risky for something that isnt legitimate. You can always go Sat & card sharing if you want it hassle free, stress free, reliable. or you can consider the only other option on cable which is Kryptview, currently 90% of the channels are working and that box has no expiry date at the moment.
I'll keep my fingers crossed and my eyes open then. They can go whistle if they think I'm gonna pay them anything the last 8 months have been terrible missing channels, not connected, update after update so they can just ditch you.I think I'll look into your recommendations as in 2 days my time is up.Cheers gerrard08 just keep me posted if you get any news on the expiry thing.Thanks.
At the moment we are getting less channels on KV but it is, as it always has been, more reliable. I also think that closed source (as in cable) is nearing it's shelf life. But's that's just my opinion. You can now purchase sat cardshare direct from a company trading from Shenzhen, China, also there are people in the uk who charge around 10-12 quid a month. If you are able, then I suggest moving to sat. For those who do not know: You buy from the uk (or china for that matter) a box such as blade 7000 (hd) openbox s9 (hd) Dreambox 500s (clone, not hd) usually with a "slot" etc etc Boxes such as the above dm500s can be obtained from uk sellers for around 55 quid + your cardshare (slot) if you know where to look. I have noticed a few links if anyone needs further info. I have both kv and sv on test but am sure I will eventually have to go to satellite side
they are sat, linux based and yes you need your lan cable same as sv7 blade are a good cheapish box with hd etc
surely the expiry date is hardcoded into the software this is why we are only now seeing it in the latest version of firmware. I am hazzarding a guess that when we get to the dates we will see a new patch but it may be a chargable download to upgrade. it would make sense to me but we never can tell what the guys will do next.
Whats going on here with the SV is a mess, if your box is gone or due to go, draw a line under it and go either Sat or Krypt, why on gods green earth would anyone pay for using the SV service? Its bad enough as it is, but to pay more for using it.... Your better off with Sat at this stage if you can get it installed or a Krypt
the blade is NOT linux based its closed software so you are dependant on new firmware beeing produced from blade.(with a little help from third parties for your cline needs)
As you say Mickah,I won't be going starview when it goes off, as you suggested all along will be trying Krypt
I updated my M8 starview 6 with the new firmware the expiry date is in 2 days time, will post back if they cut it off from the server.
